These are great tips for matches at my level, thank you, essentially they're a game plan and following them has improved my results and enjoyment of matches massively, of course I still lose to better players but they have to beat me, I don't beat myself! 😀 1. Get high percentage of your 1st serves in. 2. Return serve back direct at server. 3. At baseline be on opposite side to opponent. 4. At net be on same side as opponent. 5. Hit Baseline rallies cross court. 6. At net Hit Volleys short. 7. When Opponent comes to net hit low shot at them.

This is my third time watching this video. I've had a busy summer of tournaments every week and have watched many videos for singles strategy. This is by far the simplest to implement and has gotten me through many tough matches. I am now purely winning on these strategies, not having time to improve my technique whatsoever. Your first tips is really spot on and is so common. I have played with so many players when they always want to try to hit ace on their first serve and their serve is always fault more than 90%. Even when the 10% that land in, at least 80% the opponent can return the serve. Chances they get double fault is 30 percent. SO there is no value to serve so hard for their first serve when they usually just waste their first serve away when they can just serve harder with more confident to land the ball in than hit all out and missed all the time. I also totally agree with returning of serve just to put the ball in play. I have a friend always like to show off his power trying to hit a winner from a serve and he missed most of the time. I feel like telling him just put the ball in play, not easy to hit winner from a serve, the serve come faster and he don't have even time to set up a good strike for winner. All your tips really make sense. Thanks. Gonna show this to my friends. On second thoughts, I better keep this to myself so he don'y have this tactics against me. Hahaha

Hey I love your content! Want to point out one thing: instead of standing right in the middle for crosscourt rally, you need to be slightly more towards the crosscourt side, away from downtheline side.. reason being, the opponent is more likely to send the ball to the crosscourt side

Great basics, Ryan. Make your first serve, service returns to the middle, recover bisecting the return triangle, jam up the rushing opponent at the service line. Very few club players practice to cover the long volley/half-volley hit to their body at the service line, a very effective offensive shot to set up the easy put away.

Fantastic video - I've learnt so much and look forward to implementing these strategies. 1. Get high % of 1st serves in. May need to aim to middle, drop speed, add spin. If not hitting aces then no reason to have high pace. 2. Preplan that returns of 1st serve go down middle. Double faulting is no diff to missing a return of serve. (Who tracks returns missed?!) Need to make return to break serve. 2nd serve still can go down middle or be more aggressive. 3. Where to stand when you're both at your basline. If opponent on your right at his baseline, you should move to left of centre (may be 3 -4 ft from centre), be on opposite side of court compared to opponent. Centre of court is rarely centre of where they can hit the ball. If opponent at middle you can stay in middle of BL. Watch the pros! 4. Shadowing. Where you should stand when you're at net. Need to be slightly on same side of the court - bisect his two extreme shots. 5.Where to hit when you're both at BL rallying. Cross court is your friend - where do you stand/ move to? Offense/ defense. Down the line =78ft , crosscourt is 82.5ft. More time to recover if hit CC and less misses, lower net. 6. When you're at the net. See 4 for the position. If you volley deep they have short distance to reach ball and can pass you. VOLLEY SHORT, the basics -aim 'middle of opposing service box'. 7. When your opponent comes to the net. 2 shot passing shot strategy. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO AVOID THEM! 1st shot, hit on their body low to them - they'll miss or hit short ao you can pass hem on the 2nd shot. They dontbwant a low volley!

Coach Ryan has completely changed the way I play at look at tennis. I used to be so confused with where to stand in doubles but am now finding clarity. Singles is a new challenge for me, but I'm excited. From a mental perspective I used to blame and punish myself for mistakes, but I now look at it as I don't come to win or lose (although winning is always nice), I come to play and have fun. Sometimes in the tennis world getting the correct advice can be tough, especially if your still learning, a lot of coaches don't really want to know about you. But Ryan is passionate about tennis and encourages everyone to play. My newfound confidence is because of these videos, and the 2-minute tennis channel, and the improvements have been incredible. I am now being asked by other players to join teams, and that blows my mind. I think know you have a brilliant coach in your corner when you're improving all the way from Australia.

Hey Ryan, good job on this video! Right here you have probably all the strategic information you'll ever need for your entire club singles career. I especially liked the last point on "hitting AT the rushing net player"! Excellent. all these tips are worth implementing.. but more questions arise :) for example.. How long should one continue rallying cross court? (ie when to change it for hitting down the line? and how to change - using high or low balls? using slice or topspin balls) 2. when is it worth to run around your backhand and hit forehand (of course if it's better) 3. is it better to hit balls on the rise or move back and hit dropping balls ? or maybe to shift from time ti time between those attitudes

Hey thanks for the questions. Simply put, following these ideas helps you play better. Of course there are times to deviate. Most players don’t struggle with deviation. They struggle sticking to basics that help them win. I like teaching the basics with my videos, as the more complex strategy theories tend to be more “entertaining for the video purposes only” instead of being actual implementable by rec players. Players don’t lose matches because they don’t know when to deviate, they lose matches bc they don’t stick to basics enough.
