I originally wanted to become a Army Ranger but after seeing there’s special operations in the coast guard I’m really considering going to the coast guard to be a ME and ultimately become part of MSRT and I’m gonna try to get my degree while I’m in, so if I still wanna do the Ranger thing I can go into the army as an officer, get my Ranger tab and go to a few schools and then try to become an officer in Ranger bat. But I’m still weighing my options, just curious if anyone thinks I should go one way or another.

If you go the coast guard and get a small boat station which is usually for law enforcement and search and rescue you will work a schedule of 2 on 2 off and so forth. You will then have to put your name on the a school list to become a ME which is about 12 months wait give or take. So you'd have a good year to attend college be in the coast guard and train to go msrt. And if you don't like it you should have your degree!

Check out the coast guard academy it’s a bit stricter then normal schools but your degree is 100% paid for and you of course go into the coast as an officer

If you do apply they look for 3 things generally physical academic and leadership capabilities anything you’ve done to show this in school or outside put it on there I would also talk about always wanting a new challenge and always be prepared the coast guard motto is always prepared

8 weeks boot camp, around a year at first unit before Maritime Enforcement Specialist A-school (depends on wait list), then its possible out of A-school if youre top 1-2 in your class, if not you can try later in career after a tour or two

Man I hope those plate carriers are buoyant. With all that gear, 15lbs of plates, 10lb rifle, 2lb sidearm, full combat loudout… you could sink like an anchor if you fell off that inflatable. Anyone know how much that gear weighs all together? And if they have any emergency floatation?

They have co2 loaded tactical inflation look up the mishap from there where someone lost their life

Tactical flotation support systems (tfss) are worn on the gun belt. they automatically inflate once submerged or can be activated by pulling the beeds. Also all these guys are trained in water survival. You go through a bunch of training of jumping into the pool and stripping all ur gear, in case the tfss don’t deploy

They are still a part of the United States Armed Forces, and attached to the Department of Homeland Security. They are one of the eight (8) uniformed branches of the United States military. Originally, founded at the Revenue-Marine on 4 August 1790, and became the U.S.C.G. on 28 January 1915.
