Dančo agree. The audacity of the the guy at 55s “if you don’t do something..” how about learning to use the safety equipment properly before preemptively berating coast guard. Still we have same type of wankers at our sailing club, too much money and ego to learn to be proper skippers/radio operator.

To be fair, the very least you can learn is emergency procedures. I'm going to reply what I believe I know from memory, then look it up and edit my comment: "Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! This is [name of ship], we are at [coordinates], we are sinking fast, we have 9 souls on board. Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!" [repeat, wait for response on radio - make sure you let go of the 'talk' button]. Edit: It's this: “MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY” “THIS IS… ” (say the name of your vessel 3 times. Say your MMSI number and call sign) “MAYDAY, THIS IS…” (say name of vessel) “MY POSITION IS…” (latitude and longitude, true bearing and distance from a known point, or general direction) “I AM…” (say nature of distress eg SINKING, ON FIRE) “I REQUIRE IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE” “I HAVE…” (say number of persons on board PLUS any other useful information - such as sinking, flares fired, abandoning to liferaft) “OVER” So even from memory, I was mostly right. Not difficult to remember - mayday X 3, details of ship X 3, location (if you can say a fixed point nearby, it can help, rather than JUST the coordinates), nature of emergency, number of people plus any useful stuff. I know there's the bit about immediate assistance but nobody should be doing a mayday call if they don't actually need urgent assistance, so it kinda goes without saying that someone doing a mayday call needs urgent assistance.

People out here "bashing" the radio comms, these are your every day regulars civilians put in a extremely stressful scenario. I can't say I'd like to see how you'd react and communicate if that happened to you because it can be a life threatening scenario, but instead of bashing people for how they "communicated" over a radio, sit back shut up and be glad people did survive.
