I just saw this on t.v. too. It was a remarkable story. I would like to say congrats for this remarkable rescue. I would also like to say sorry for your loss to the families of the fallen. I hope the fallen will rest in peace.

The book is BS. I used to work on the Ranger and the Juris. There is a lot of effort put into those boats maintenance.

From my understanding, the ship blew it's radiator and the lower decks completely flooded with hot antifreeze. which caused the ship to sink.

I was a seamen on the CGC Munro. I was on the flight deck guiding the basket of survivors down and getting them out onto the deck. Still remember this day like yesterday

@Zeb by using a grounding wand (a.k.a. “Deadman’s stick”) attached to the ship or boat by a wire rope, which is touched to the basket as it comes down.

Im actually shipping out june 6th to cape may, nj for basic training. Im hoping to become an AST (rescue swimmer). Ive been wanting to do it ever since i was a kid. I have a question however and anyone can answer if they can. I know that these waters are unbelievably cold so do rescue swimmers wear any kind of special clothing (suits) to keep them "warm"?
