Coastal P-30 test flight near Washoe Lake, Nevada

This is a test flight of my Coastal P-30 which is a free flight rubber powered model airplane built to comply with the rules for the P-30 event. This model is my own design. It is built very near to the 40 gram minimum weight so that I can fly it with a relatively thin 6 x 3/32-inch rubber motor - 9.8 grams before lubing. The de-thermalizer (DT) on the model triggers early before the motor run has completed. This brings the model down before it has a chance to complete a 120 second maximum flight under the P-30 rules. Most P-30 models are flown with a 6 x 1/8-inch rubber motor which provides a more rapid climb but a shorter motor run.
