For anyone who didn't know already, the railroad appeared in the movie "How the West Was Won.". It is worth watching. I got lucky one day back in the 1960's and was able to get 8mm movie footage of the STEAM engine running from the junction toward Hayden.

Thanks! I try to stand back as far as I can from my camcorder when taking pictures, but somehow the shutter clicks keep getting in my videos...

@@Coaster3001 yeah DSLR people are so annoying, always motordriving it right next to good footage. Get a mirrorless or a sound blimp smh.

Hey, Im considering going to see the CBRY this Saturday. Would they be running the Magma Local on that day and also would it be better to go see them in the morning or afternoon. Also, is it possible to get close to the locomotives in the yard somehow?

Bummer I didn't see this earlier... The ore dump is right next to the road and you can probably pull over and watch them dump. The yard is really tiny and I've never really seen a whole lot going on there. Most of the good stuff happens at the Ray Mine and the Hayden Smelter and, unfortunately, you can't get on the property to watch them. I'm not sure how active they'll be right now though because the mine that it services is on strike last I heard. The CBRY was a lot more active a few years ago when they still shipped copper concentrate up from the Mission Mine to Hayden and they used to ship sulfuric acid out by rail to other customers. Now the acid is only shipped to Ray by rail. All of the rest is by truck. They also used to ship the copper from Hayden to Amarillo for refining by rail but found it was more economical to ship by truck. ASARCO also has a 44 Tonner on the smelter property for switching.
