Gwazi was my first every roller coaster and was always my favorite. I remember years ago waiting allll the way at the end of the queue to ride this ride and everyone was so excited to get on it. Now all everyone does is talk trash about it because it can't compare to the new steel coasters. It's not a bad ride, and is a great classic from Busch Gardens.

I always read reviews on how smooth GCI coasters are and Gwazi was a prime example how a few years will turn a GCI coaster into a brutal ride. Maybe smooth by wood standards are the reason why GCI get's so much praise, but I've rode Gwazi and Thunderhead, and both were rough riding to me. Thunderhead is not that bad but Gwazi was unrideable.

I took my poor mother on this roller coaster when I was a kid and we were on holiday, as none of my cousins or other family would ride it. 😂 She had no idea what she let herself in for and I have a vivid memory of her high-pitched screaming and crying, holding onto me for dear life 😂. I also remember being seriously concerned I was going to fly out of the cart at various points, I was a small skinny lad and getting thrown about like a golf ball in a blender.

This was my first big coaster. Given nothing else to go off of, it took me another three years to work up the courage to ride Montu, Kumba, or SheiKra, because I thought they'd be proportionally more intense lol. But I always liked Gwazi despite its roughness, and now that it's been gone for a while I'm still not over it. Fun fact: Gwazi was actually built in 1999 in response to Dueling Dragons at Islands of Adventure; that's why it was a dueling coaster (although the two sides weren't often in sync, so the 5 or 6 near-miss moments would often go unnoticed).

Actually to everyone that thinks this is rough, I found it quite smooth but thanks to the padding and the flexibility to the new trains. I honestly hate really bumpy wooden rollercoasters but this one tops my chart so far (Due to the fact that I do not travel to out of state theme parks much) thanks to the padding. I've ridden it back row 14 times (7 on either side) in one day and wanted to keep doing it again!

Gwazi is my favorite ride a Busch Gardens. It's rough because 1) it's old and wooden and 2) the rumbles make it sound like lion/tiger roars when you aren't riding it. Definitely one of the best rides at Busch Gardens.
@notastereotyoe74917 жыл бұрын
People ( including myself ) often walk off with whip lash. It was also unsafe. Once the lap bar gave way and I almost flew out. I told ride operators and they closed it down the rest of the day . Like 2 weeks later the ride was permanently closed.
@vinity52029 жыл бұрын
I can understand why they closed it down, but couldn't they honestly just put a warning sign on the front of the entrance? If you don't want to experience the stuff, DON'T RIDE THE COASTER! Unfortunately, it is too late. I went to busch gardens 2 weeks after it closed. NUUUUU!

It seems like only Hershey Park and a few other places can actually take care of a wooden coaster so it doesn't hurt after riding it. Shame. People just can't seem to realize how much maintenance woodies take. Actually...isn't this the only wood coaster Busch Gardens ever had? That might explain why it was rough compared to others.

Actually, we just got to go to Busch Gardens today (the first time since we were tiny little kids) and I was staring and Gwazi like "I WISH I COULD RIDE THAT..." HEADS UP: one side of Gwazi has apparently closed forever, with the other side close behind. the trains on the inactive side of gwazi have been apparently sold to busch gardens williamsburg, with the other trains reportedly being sold to an unspecified six flags park. this could mean two new coasters coming soon. 1 would be a replacement for gwazi, the other would be a wooden coaster at bg williamsburg. this inferred because, as i said, the trains have been sold to bg williamsburg, despite the fact that they currently have no wooden coaster. keep your eyes peeled

I loved gwazi so much, but now they are taking it down :'( Edit: To make it more clear: I fully understand why. I just hold large sentimental value towards the roller coaster. It was my favorite ride and one of the only rides my dad was able to ride with me. I was also allowed by a ride runner to ride it 4 times in a row when I was younger and I was sick. (Threw up and went to the hospital after 😅) It was also one of the last rides I rode with my dad as we ran into some troubles and couldn't make it to any amusement parks after. At the time of my comment, this wasn't the case, but today, I'll never get to ride another ride with my dad. So Gwazi took an even bigger part of my heart as a ride both me and my dad enjoyed together.

As a kid since you had to be taller to ride Montu Kumba and Sheikra, people always talked like those were the most intense rides, but everyone always low-key knew Gwazi would fuck you up the most. Unlike mr fancy "Steel Replacement" look-at me, I'm-a-fucking-RMC over in Cheddar Poke bloke folk fuck town, Gwazi is a coaster you could literally touch and feel every wooden beam and nail sending the kinetic energy of your car speeding over the metal railway. It was awesome. It felt edgy. It was arousing. It wasn't a roller coaster that came out of a doodle you'd make while taking notes in class. It was a fucking monster.
What was built in place of this ride? After watching it, finally mustered the courage to think it's not too bad, and I could ride it...to find out now, it's closed?!
