I used to have this series of VHS tapes when I was younger. I love how they reused the sound byte of that same screaming girl in most of the coaster POVs... like we wouldn't notice.

I remember the first time I rode Steel Phantom when I was a kid and getting the absolute shit beat out of me BUT I loved every second of it. You either liked it or you hated it, there was no in between. Especially slamming into the trims before the loop. What an experience. Ran right back in line a couple times until I legitimately couldn't see straight (probably lost a few million brain cells in the process). Was also fun hearing people complain about having to remove earrings then being thankful they did when we returned back to the station. Worth it! Phantoms Revenge is good as well but no where near as intense though a completely different experience. Excited for opening day, got our passes ready. Looking at old footage for the memories. :D

What a miracle that a few scraps from the Steel Phantom stayed such as the station, the lift hill, and the big drop. But then I wouldn't know what the thrill of it was, for I never actually been to Kennywood to begin with, still haven't actually.

I personally rode this coaster the last year it was open before rebuilding it. To this day I resent the amount of pain it caused me, and I was 10 years old at the time! My head vibrated between the shoulder rests so much I had an intensely painful headache for 3 days. I love the coaster the way it is now, so much better!!!

Steel Phantom is not AKA Phantom's Revenge. 2 different coasters. First it was Steel Phantom, then it was Phantom's Revenge.

Holy shit, this video. I had it as a kid an watched it weekly when I became obsessed with roller coasters. Unexpected major nostalgia.

Aye :( That was the major killer of A.D. (Arrow Dynamics), their suspension design allowed too much play between the tracks and wheels which resulted in the jerky and rattley ride people famously complained about. It's sad really, I love that original track design and it was about to get better with the Pipe-Line style coaster which was basically an evolved corkscrew coaster but it never took off and that's about the time A.D. went belly up :(

The ride is still fantastic. In fact, It's faster now, and smoother, It's a truly great hypercoaster. It's better now than when it was the Steel Phantom. Now, it's the Phantom's Revenge. A great ride, really. A ride doesn't need inversions to be fun. It's still up there in the coaster world. It's still worth going to Kennywood. To the day, the fastest coaster I've been on. I still recommend this ride! :)

I rode this back when it was the Steel Phantom in the 90's early 2000's and since it has becomes the Phantom's Revenge. They changed it because it was not attracting any riders. I remember getting on it in a matter of minutes towards the end of its run. Where as earlier in the 90's it was 1-2 hour wait. I was just there yesterday and the Revenge is now 12 years old and waited a hour to ride. Thew new one has had a better longevity. Proof is in the wait time.

I rode this in 1996, and I thought it was awesome b/c I was 15 and was riding one of the fastest coasters at the time, but yeah...it hurt. I rode it two times in a row and then had a throbbing headache for the rest of the day.:( I'd like to go back and ride it since they've taken out the loops. I hear it's much more enjoyable. And I say it was ONE of the fastest at the time b/c I think another coaster beat the record that summer. I could be wrong.

I HATED this ride! It felt like you were in a car crash after it was over. The restraints came down over our heads. That caused riders to bang their heads side to side and front and backwards. Very painful experience!😖😫

Steel phantom at kennywood closed in 2000 and I didnt get to ride it becase I was born in 2008 and it was built in 1991

the phantom now is not as intense, not even close.But the more I have ridden it the more I realize it was the right decision. I LOVED the original when I was a kid, but there were many times I needed a break from rides because my head was pounding after. A ride shouldn't do that to you

One year the park had to renovate it because it was too rough so they renamed it Phantoms Revenge and took ou the inversions and added airtime hills instead

Rocco Cleavenger Being too rough probably was a reason, but they needed a new ride and the structure and track after the second hill was deteriorating. Instead of just replace the track they decided to redesign the ride like they did with the Pippen to make it the thunderbolt. Genius way to make a new attraction without the high cost.

I have to respectfully disagree!!! I rode both versions. To me the Steel Phantom was and is still better. Phantoms Revenge is a pile of crap. Steel Phantom voted the #4 best coaster in the world!! I don't even think Phantom's Revenge even crack the top 10!!

You're wrong. Phantoms revenge is always on top 10 or top 20 lists of best coasters. Was just #2 in US Today this summer (2021). It has aged well and continues to be a great ride. The old one would have never lasted. It would have only gotten more rough. I'm old enough to have experienced the old and the new.
