The reason they have the elevated brake runs was because the rides used to run 2 cycles when the park was much smaller. The elevation of the brake run still gave the riders enough energy coming down to zoom through the station and through the prelift.

It's definitely a fun visit even though the resort kind of gives off a budget-y vibe. I remember riding one of the wooden coasters and once my seatbelt UNBUCKLED itself somehow! Thank god for those safety bars though. I dont know if it was a fault of the coaster, the staff if they didnt check thoroughly, or a fault of my own but nevertheless I felt lucky that day lol. Naw but Olympus is a fun place. I made the mistake of going right before they fully opened the park for the season and I still had a fun time.

You've been hearing a lot because it was literally the only coaster park open for about a week. And it's why I went there. And I agree with jker you can tell this park has a very tiny budget. I mean 3 of their 4 woodies were built by CCI in '95, '96 and '97. I'm not even sure the trains have been painted since they opened (I kid, there's no way the paint lasted that long).

Awesome review and before you reviewed Zeus I’d only heard of Hades 360 and Cyclops being amazing wooden coasters, but now I see that all 3 of them are incredible in their own ways. Never thought I’d say this but just from the looks of it Mt. Olympus definitely has one of the best wooden coaster lineups out there along with Holiday World, Six Flags Great America, and Kings Island.

Great America and Kings Island only have two and a half woodies though, and IMO American Eagle isn't super awesome. I may be biased because it is my home park but I think I'd rate Six Flags St Louis' 3 woodies ahead of both of those parks. And not because it's got one more, but because they're also pretty good. And it's also not totally common to see 3 with three different coaster and train manufacturers. Holiday World is definitely the king of woodies though - even if they could really stand to retrack more often than they do (I only rode Raven in its first or second year, it was smooth then but I hear it very much isn't now).

I agree with everything mentioned. Speaking from personal experience (and since it’s one of my home parks), Holiday World has the BEST wooden roller coaster collection. Kings Island’s collection is pretty solid but based on what I’ve seen with Mt. Olympus, it looks like their lineup is a pinch better. I’ll have to see for myself though. @danrarbc, SfSTL is on my bucket list this year. I can’t wait to see what American Thunder, The Boss and Screaming Eagle are about.

When I rode it, I found this to be the best coaster in the park. (Cyclops had less airtime than I anticipated, Pegasus was painful, and the tunnels of Hades were too loud)

Zeus is definitely fun, smooth, and the only sessionable coaster at Mt. Olympus. Definitely hauls and has some solid air time to boot. I liked Cyclops and Zeus over Hades 360, but have no clear #1 there. Hades beat me up way worse than any other coaster there and I really don't like the Timberliners for anything more intense than Kentucky Flyer.

great review btw I would love it if you would also review some flat rides on fair grounds since a flat ride can be just a good as a coaster. Next time you go to europe please visit a fairground. That is because they are awesome the rides are really intense and spin way faster then in parks. I bet you have never ridden a breakdance witch is a shame because they are really common in europe and I think that a good night ride on them is better then something like goliath at walibi holland. It is just the atmosphere music and lights that makes it so awesome.

Agree this is the most re-ridable coaster at this park. I was surprised how smooth it was overall compared to the other 3 coasters. That turn around that was retracted was very smooth! Went there probably a week or so after you. It was a hot and humid day and all the coasters were running fast imo.

Cyclops is a husk of a one much better ride with how badly the park a fucked it up, when I last rode it in the last car in 2012 it was psychotic intense ejector with BUZZBARS, it's still in my top five overall for that one ride. That changed in 2014 when they put Hades old train on the ride (which i predicted BTW), then in the 2014-2015 off-season they neutered the ride's iconic drop. Don't both riding Cyclops ever, it's not the legendary ride it once was.

Why did CCI have to go. They can make some of the best ejector machines in the world.

Sadly, most of that airtime was due to sub-par engineering, and then making the drops too sudden and steep, causing wear on the track and trains and making them maintenance nightmares.

@@eyebrowse My home park has the biggest CCI ever built. The Boss. It can't run PTC trains and appears to require CONSTANT track replacement. They literally have pallets of wood on site all year. And I went to the park 25-30 times in one season, I could see new wood on it most visits. I have to hand it to the park maintenance team though - I've ridden rougher woodies.

GCI pretty much exists because CCI went under. A lot of CCI ride engineers ended up at GCI.

the main reason was they weren't charging enough for their creations. Yes, literally. It led heavily to their bankruptcy, which resulted in the existence of GCI and Gravity Group, mostly. CCI came out of Dinn as it was, lots of connected puzzle pieces there. However that lack of business sense combined with some experimental scenarios that have resulted in areas that either require a lot of maintainence or don't even get that maintainence leading to roughness wasn't helping either. CCI made Boulder Dash and it's had to have entire areas replaced to not brutal despite it always being ranked as a top 10.

I think a GCI would fit in more. I don't know how I feel about that maintenance staff working on an RMC. They can't get every car on Hades 360 working. If they go the RMC route I think Raptors are cheaper than their usual coasters. And that'd actually be interesting there too.

Pre-watch- Loved this coaster in the 90s. Just isn't the same coaster now that so many trees were removed to make way for Hades. The trees really helped make Zues great to ride at night as it made things extra dark. In general, I hate the park in general had to tear out numerous go-kart tracks. The one that used to be by Pegasus was fun as it had a double dip hill on the ride. They sort of hurt the park by trying to compete with Noah's Ark and adding a water park of their own.

To this day this is the single worst coaster I've ever been on, and since Cyclops is a husk of the single most intense coaster experience I've ever had I won't ever go back to this God-awful park and my last visit was in 2012. I only rode it twice, once in 2011 and again in 2012, everything after the 2:08 mark was HORRIBLE, not just the turnaround, pretty much the ENTIRE RIDE WAS PAINFUL, yes the now defunct Avalance at Timber Falls was worse, but they had a more of a reason for that and I cut the park some slack (you didn't miss out on that thing, it was awful). My score for Zeus will always be a 0/10, not only that but it's the reason that I never rode Hades once, with how painful Zeus was I never gave Hades a chance and honestly I dont regret it. Cyclops had the best air-time in the park before they completly ruined the ride, their treatment of Cyclops has single-handedly made me never want to visit that shithole again. Cyclops blew me away in 2012, that thing that bears the same name is not Cyclops just an empty husk masquerading as Cyclops. CYCLOPS HAD BUZZBARS FOR FUCKS SAKE, yes that mental ride had way better restraints.

No. That’s not how the scores work. They’re not meant to be compared from review to review- they’re done on an individual level. If I only gave coasters 10’s if they’re in my top 10, then tons of amazing rides would get 7’s or 8’s even though they did nothing wrong!

That’s not really how the score system works. They’re done on an individual level. Not really meant to be compared. I gave oscars wacky taxi a 10/10 for being a perfect family score. Just because I gave it a 10/10 doesn’t mean it’s my new #1. It just means they couldn’t have done anything to make that style of ride better.

9/10 is basically for their own separate ride, they’re very solid, but have a few small things that could be improved on. Not meant to be compared as he said. Just because they’re the same score doesn’t mean they’re the same quality of ride. I think Taron looks super overrated personally but it still looks great and would be the best ride if it were at this park though
