Quick update on what has happened since this video was made! Matt and I each spoke with representatives from Six Flags Over Georgia, who apologized for what happened, and provided more information on their policies. First, Six Flags Over Georgia DOES allow cameras with interchangeable lenses in the park. Next, the loose article cubbies at Superman Ultimate Flight are there because they were never removed from the old policy before the lockers were brought in, and now are solely to be used by guests with medical equipment that they can’t be separated from in line. They don’t want loose items placed there in the event of theft. The lockers are in place to speed up operations. Finally, Six Flags takes safety VERY seriously, and were alarmed at what happened to Matt at Superman. Disciplinary action has since been taken, with steps made to ensure something like that does not happen again. The same goes for the ride operator on his phone at Goliath. What happened to us this past week is not an accurate representation of staff training. We appreciate management for speaking with us, apologizing for what happened, and taking steps to improve. As I mentioned at the end of the video, I know that despite what happened, we will be back to Six Flags Over Georgia in the future, and we look forward to having a much better experience. -Taylor

I've worked at a different Six Flags park for 4 years, and worked at a second Six Flags park this summer, what happened to his friend would've gotten the whole crew fired at my main park, because guest safety is the most important thing there. But also, we're a newer Six Flags park, so we still have the mind frame from our old management, but guest safety is the most important thing, we've had entire crews fired from a ride because someone missed a restraint and the crew cleared the ride to start, with a restraint still up in the air. That part of the video seriously made my blood boil as a ride op who takes her job seriously. Like yeah, it's good to be efficient and have the ride going, but efficiency means nothing if your guests aren't safe.

As a former Superman ride op at SFGAm, that leg flap mistake is inexcusable. Every one on the platform that day needs to be disciplined. From day 1, I've always maintained that nobody under the age of 18 should be operating rides -- but some entire crews in the Six Flags chain have red tags (16 & 17 yr olds). Super is one of the hardest rides to operate and one of the rides that requires the most focus during dispatch -- the SOP and certification exam are made difficult for a reason.

A 16 year Old may Operate Superman as Good as a 40 year old Operator. It depends on the mindset towards the job. I guess I am a good example for that: Im 16 and am working as a lifeguard after school and Im one of the lifeguards that are focused the most on the Job.

That happened to me once where it went into flying position and my legs weren’t in but then it went back down and they came over and fixed it but nothing would have happened because you can just keep your legs straight because I went on superman normally and I held my legs in the middle floating not touching anything and at no time did your legs get slammed to the side or up or down and there’s like a 5 foot clearance everywhere on the track

@@the_dmb7569 Not to take anything away from you, but being a 16 year old it's quite easy to see why a) you would disagree with an 18-up policy and possibly feel a bit defensive at the suggestion and b) why you would believe you are an exception to the rule. Everyone thinks they are. It may be true in your case, but even if so-- it makes you an exception. I agree there should be no 16 or 17 year olds working flying coasters.

As a Georgian, this is how SFOG operates. They won't pay people a quality wage so we deal with problems like this constantly. I had an incident where I was riding Great American Scream Machine and the lap bar wasn't secured and I had to scream at the attendant to stop the ride because they were halfassing their lap bar check. I also had a lapbar open up mid ride on the old georgia cyclone (thank god they put the RMC in) I had to tense up to hold myself through the bunny hills towards the end. I told the ride attendant and they said "oh yea, that happens sometimes."

Yikes! That strange photo policy reminds me of the ridiculous antics that Six Flags Ohio / Six Flags Worlds of Adventure enforced. While I was never turned away at the front gate for having a camera, I was asked to put it back in my car for taking pictures on the midway. Not in any line. Not in any behind the scenes areas. In the park, on the midway. I even witnessed security taking a camera out of the hands of one of my friends who was just walking with it. It was miserable at that park and I stopped going because of rules like that. Each time it happened I would go to guest relations and wasn't given the explanation for the rule. The closest anyone explained it to me was "Six Flags prohibits the copying of any of it's logos". When I brought up that the park sells disposable cameras in the gift shops, they denied it. The photo policy is one thing but the safety of riders is a MUST. I still can't believe what I have seen in your video. How does anyone not see that when a train is dispatching? It sounds like Six Flags Over Georgia did apologize to you, which is a step in the right direction, but considering the video, I have absolutely no plans to visit that park anytime in the future. Maybe that will change in a few years but this video really turned me off from going to the park. Thanks for uploading.

The funny thing is that according to the park there was never a restriction against photography. This was back when I was the ACE publications director and, of course, we rely on contributions of photos from our members. I felt it should be brought to someone's attention. I wrote to the GM and PR manager and told them that there were disturbing reports of guests being harassed by park security and employees for taking pictures - even a report of one employee ripping film out of guest's camera. I also provided them with a link to a video of a security guard screaming into the camera to shut it off. I was given a written response that as long as park patrons remain within public areas they are welcome to take pictures and video. I still have that letter somewhere. Fortunately I never experienced it first hand, so I do have photos of the park. However, these complaints were all over RRC (social media at the time) and it happened to several people I know, some of them close friends. It had to be a widespread problem and yet the park managers seemed completely unaware.

Being a former ride operator from Disney and a current ride operator at Universal, the leg incident would be an automatic 2 point safety or termination. SFoG has really been slacking a lot lately, especially with its one train dispatching on busy days, extremely careless Team Members who are very slow and height situations. I dont know whats happening with this park in particular but it really needs a fresh new management team.

This is my home park and I can honestly say that over the years the customer service has done nothing but get worse year after year. They hire a bunch of young, ignorant, negligent, selfish people who couldn’t care less about the job and have no passion for coasters or the amusement industry in general. I worked on the ga scorcher as a team member when I was 16, I loved it. My coworkers were just after a check. There isn't one.... I know that park well enough to tell you with a fair amount of certainty they made that up to protect themselves. This happened at the height of the whole BLM mess that gripped America. This park is staffed by mostly young, ATL public school educated (which means poorly educated for those who aren't local) African Americans. The same ones you see wearing BLM shirts. And they gave two white boys trouble for nothing at all. As far as the Ultimate Flight Incident I refer you to my previous comment about ATL public schools. Trust me, I know people who attended that school district.

I don't really understand how the Superman thing even happened. Here in the UK, the staff for Galactica (Air) have to check the foot restraints for every seat before the train is authorised to leave (usually involves a slight kick) - this would be picked up in a heartbeat. How can something so obvious be missed and then further ignored once the train was primed (it wasn't hard to miss); and then some-one actually had to authorise and allow the train to leave. I even think there is some sort of sensor that detects a weight distribution issue if this happens and flags the seat concerned (I'm not certain, but I seem to remember conversations about amputees having to have an over-ride because the trains didn't detect the "correct" number of legs, for example). There are just SO MANY points of failure here I'm flabbergasted. That isn't a mistake. That is negligence at it's most obvious.

My history with Disney is that they are very welcoming to brining in any camera. I brought in a Mirrorless camera with external microphone, 4 lenses, extra batteries and a gimbal and the only thing Disney asked me was to confirm that the gimbal did not extend (like a selfie stick) and took my work for it. As for my Six Flags park (Great America) they will not even let in a 2 tabletop handheld tripod, but as of 2019, they did not care about me brining in my mirrorless with the one lens attached (no bag of stuff like when I went to Disney). as for Universal Orlando, they were the same as Disney, just you cannot bring anything (even smartphone) on any rides except the Hogwarts Express and Dr Seuss ride. I think that Disney as well as Universal want as much web presence via vloggers and are willing to let people bring in best gear.

My home park is Great Adventure, and unfortunately, I've witnessed incidents like these too. I once got on Bizarro with my mother and shoulder harness didn't click. Ride operators couldn't care less about it, and it was only prevented from coming loose because of the seat belt. During another instance when I was smaller, my little brother rode the Taz Tornado kiddie swing ride. Mid-ride, a little girl decided she wanted off and straight up jumped off the ride. Every time she tried to get up, she'd get nailed in the head by another passenger's feet; all the while the ride op not caring at all. Six Flags should really enforce more strict safety training of its ride operators.

Wow! Being a ride operator at six flags fiesta texas I can say with absolute certainty that there operators were blatantly not doing their job. The loose article policy should have been and was, at least to me, very heavily addressed in the company wide certified safe training that all Six Flags operators have to go through. I can not say for certain weather part of this incompetence was from the area leads and/or supervisors (the people who do the on ride training) or if all responsibility fall on the team members themselves, but either way it is terrifying to know the differences of the parks in the same chain. In terms of having their phone out.... WHATTT??!! That is one huge thing that can result in immediate termination or at the BARE MINIMUM a loss of certification of your rides and the need to re take certified safe plus on the job training of the rides. I can rest assure you that Six Flags Fiesta Texas operators are much better lol. Especially in area 1 (crack axle canyon) :)

That is absurd how the ride operators let him out of the station when the train wasn’t fully locked. Imagine if it had been the over the shoulder restraint that didn’t lock. That is not okay

Evry thing did lock the shin guard was locked too as you Can see. the trains can’t depart the station if everything isn’t locked I just think he didn’t get his leg ind

The restraints were all locked or the train wouldn't be able to depart the station. This is an issue basically unique to b&m flyers where its possible for the restraint to lock with a limb outside of the restraint. This should be checked by ride ops before and during dispatch, who were obviously negligent that day and didn't check properly. Anybody looking should be able to see that as the train departs a leg is hanging down and stop the train on the lift. Somehow not one single ride op saw this and allowed the ride to complete a circuit with a loose leg

I’m so sorry that you guys had to deal with that. You handled the situation extremely well. However, if I were you, I would sue the park for what happened on Superman. While I understand that the man at guest services was very nice and might have talked to the staff about it, there is still no excuse for that to happen. His leg could have been broken or worse (I think you know what I mean by that...) Point is, you really could sue the park, because if anything really bad happened to him, that would result in a major lawsuit like what happened with Alton Towers.

The policy about not letting guests use the cubbies has been going on FOREVER at Six Flags Over Georgia. I went in September 2019 and they made us carry EVERYTHING with us WHILE we rode Goliath. They were doing this to every guest. So disappointing.
@jeaninewilson2170
@jeaninewilson2170 4 жыл бұрын
It’s a money grabbing tactic. Force guest to pay for the park attendants to retrieve their belongings or risk having them taken by them. I also speculate they do it to make lines go by quicker by having people make the choice to not ride the ride.

Yikes that's terrifying at Superman. The only camera issue I've had at a Six Flags park was at Great Adventure. I took a picture of the old Chiller Observatory from the center of the midway (when Justice League was under construction). A security guard told me I had to delete that photo since the building I took a picture of was behind a fence and Six Flags clearly didn't want that photographed.

Six Flags Magic Mountain has had that camera policy for several years, though enforcement was spotty. They specifically list Go Pro cameras, lenses greater than 3.5 inches in length, and interchangeable lenses as banned. Sounds like this policy may be expanding and/or being more strictly enforced. As for Superman, that is insane, though not the first time I've heard of such happening on that ride. Unfortunately, SFOG seems a bit more lax on safety standards than most of the other parks in the chain, but it's concerning that they don't even seem to care when legitimately dangerous incidents occur.

I live just south of Nashville so six flags Georgia, dollywood & holiday world are just a few hours away. I go to those parks alot. My last 3 times to six flags Georgia have all been horrible experiences. The majority of their ride ops just seem to not care & are rude.

I am a huge rollercoaster enthusiast and thank you for this informative video. I visit Cedar Fair parks much more frequently than Six Flags parks not that it matters as far as safety is concerned. I have never been hassled about cameras or photography at any Cedar Fair parks and have never experienced any safety issues further solidifying my opinions that Cedar Fair is a far superior company than Six Flags!!!! Once again thank you for this informative video.

SFNE used to have a similar camera policy because they didn't want staff photographers to have competition. Now that everyone has cameras on their phone it's impossible to enforce.
