Fun fact: the track you walk under that the Hulk is ripping up is actually track pieces that were salvaged from the original ride before the re-track.

I took a friend to Universal for his first visit and we walked into the Hulk queue before there were any trains running. We ended up in the last car of the first train of the day. I told him nothing about the ride before we got on and it was before KZbin so he didn't know what to expect. Believe me when I tell you you have never heard a grown man scream as loud or as long as when that train launched out of the tunnel! Such a great ride.

I did DeceptiCoaster last summer and it is quite good! It is buttery smooth. The positives are definitely still there and the theming is absolutely immaculate. It also has a fantastic locker system that actually uses Face ID! However the whip you’d get on the Hulk going into that zero g roll and the cobra roll and the first corkscrew is completely gone, which is a big bummer for me.

I went to Universal Orlando in 2003, when I was almost 11. I saved the Hulk for the end of the day as I was plucking up the courage to finally do it (on my own - I'm an only child and my parents didn't want to go on it lol). I finished it and I LOVED it so much I ended up doing it about another six or seven times that evening. That was a great day.

This is 100% me with how I became a fanatic. I had been so afraid of most big coasters. I had ridden Batman at SFOT but that was the only big coaster I'd ride then we went to Orlando and I road Hulk and was off to the races. I road Hagrids, Rip Ride, and Velocicoaster and since then I've been om the journey to ride any and everything I can.

I've been on Decepticoaster for more than 70 times, and i can tell Incredible Hulk feels more like the old B&M style with some crazy transitions but Decepticoaster feels like the new gen B&M looper with slower and more gradual transitions and it feels newer of course with these ‘vests'😂, it's hard to say which one is better because they kind of have different styles, but definitely both of them are really good ride !

Having ridden Hulk for the first time last week, I concur with everything you’ve said. I will add that it ran pretty rough…similar to that of Riddlers Revenge at SFMM. Still worth it for the launch and first inversion and that sweet sweet mist.

"This ride is loud" (in reference to the ride itself, not the audio track) The crazy thing is that now it's even quieter than it was! The original iteration had no sand inside the track, so what would happen is that as the vehicle would move it would vibrate the track. Those reverberations would echo inside the box spine on the track and get amplified, resulting in every single launch being heard all across the park. I vividly remember as a kid walking into the Dueling Dragons line and hearing the Hulk launch all the way across the park. The new version has some amount of sand inside the track to dampen the noise so that it's still loud, but not as loud as it once was.

Definitely one of the better B&M loopers. It was also my first "big coaster". I've ridden both versions of hulk and both have some headbanging against the restraints. The last time I rode it was in the rain and the raindrops felt like water bullets with how fast your going

The only time I've experienced it was when it first opened in 99. It was probably my 3rd biggest coaster of my life at that point, as a few months prior, my first 2 biggest coasters ever, were Apollo's Chariot and Alpie. From what I remember, I thought it was the best coaster I've been on at that time, even after doing Dueling Dragons earlier on in the day.

I went on hill with my brother. We waited 3 hours because it broke down. The line was already 1hr 30 mins without the breakdown. And when we got on it, we got the middle. And it was pretty shaky too! So, would I wait 3 hours for hulk again, no. Would I wait 3 hrs for Velocicoaster, already did. To be fair, it was December 28, 2023. The lines were sort of reasonable. Except for Kong. What a waste.

I think it's nuts they don't have more B&M's. You think they would love B&M. Most expensive, but also safest, biggest capacity, smooth as any other, best reliability and maintenance friendly etc. It's probably their conservative nature. B&M refused to work on this launch (all way until Thunderbird they refused to do them due to reliability) so Universal sub-contracted out the tire propelled launch in 1998-99. You can see info on it on the Universal Islands of Adventure construction documentary. Saw it years ago where I learned that.

I get why the did the lockers but as someone who’s been going to Universal Orlando for almost 25 years this whole “metal detector” nonsense has made me question going to the park. Not only is it mostly unnecessary, the vast majority of parks have intense coasters that don’t do the same, but the employees are insufferable. When my watch constantly sets off the scanner I get a condescending look and hostile scan of my pockets searching for nothing. Honestly I’ve never felt so unwelcome. The amount of accusatory “What did you forget????” comments because my belt or watch set off the alarm is infuriating. Yes, you have to deal with people flaunting the rules but being treated like garbage by default is truly upsetting.

The one time I went to this park (nearly a decade ago now) Hulk was closed :( but at least I could marathon dueling dragons right before they closed for good. Such a unique invert. IMO stuff like velocicoaster can't replace the uniqueness and thrill of dueling inverts.

Good points about the roughness, I made the mistake of starting the day with this one 😆Sitting at the back even after the refurb was fun but properly and surprisingly rough, would recommend sitting up front for a smoother ride if you don't want to feel like your brain is bouncing in your head. I also don't remember the soundtrack being present, or maybe it wasn't playing when I rode it in 2023. Hagrids and Velocicoaster felt smooth like butter/flying in comparison

Hulk for me before the mid course (including the downward S bend) is about a 10/10. And sometimes in single rider you marathon this on non-busy days...so good. I don't normally feel the roughness of this ride tbh

That is a 100% accurate review. I've been on Hulk many times since my first visit to IOA in 2002, and a few times since the retrack as well. You hit every point perfectly, from the fantastic uphill launch into the zero-g roll, to the forceful cobra roll, (I also love both vertical loops so much - but I also love vertical loops more than any other inversion....zero-g rolls are close behind), to the lackluster second half after the break run. I wonder if the break run happened slightly earlier in the ride and they moved one of the earlier inversions to the second half so that there'd be two inversions instead of one after the midcourse, if that would have evened out the pace better? But that first half is fire. I still prefer Velocicoaster these days by a mile, but Hulk was epic when it was the new kid in town.
@kevindiossi
@kevindiossi 4 ай бұрын
I don't remember this coaster being so rough to ride on before the retrack. My wife and I (passholders for almost 9 years) consistently road this back when Dueling Dragons was still open and it wasn't unpleasant at all. Now, fast forward to the new theming, new ride vehicles, and retrack and wow...we can't ride this coaster anymore. It may honestly be one of the roughest riding experiences...possibly behind Kumba, and Great American Scream Machine. I looked at the old vehicles and it appears the old shoulder restraints sat lower and were a bit wider. (all the old photos show taller people's heads beyond the restraints while I'm 6'1" and my ears are destroyed by the time I get off this ride. My wife had a rook piercing that was bleeding the last time she rode it and had that in. So yeah...not a smooth ride at all. You gave this an 8...I want to say I would agree back in the day. I need to give it another chance and try to keep my head forward as much as possible. But it's hard to ride something like this when Hagrids and VelociCoaster are so dang smooth.

I hate to say this but I was disappointed with this ride. I rode it about 2 and a half weeks ago and was really excited for it, it was also my first B&M. Just thought it would be way more fun and wippy, much like Velocicoaster. But for whatever reason it just did not do it for me, I’m not sure it’s because we sat in the middle or what but I kind of got bored honestly. I’m not saying that it still isn’t a good ride, but I’m just saying if I could ride this or Hagrid’s, I would pick Hagrid’s.

In some ways, I kinda wish they kept the original audio that you hear during the lift section before you launch. When Bruce Banner says "I think... I think this time, it's going to work" then the computer comes in, saying there's a malfunction, and Bruce screams "No, No, Noooo!" as it launches out of the top. I haven't been on this ride since maybe 2017/18, but I did go on it when the re-tracking had taken place. (Edit: I haven't been to this park since Velocicoaster and Hagrid's came to the park if that helps, but I was there before both of them came to the park.) So I don't know if they brought it back or not, or if it was there when the re-tracking and that took place and I don't remember it, but I always liked that part. I do really like this ride, and just like you said, will always ride it every time I go to this park.

The launch is probably my favorite launch that I've been on, though I haven't been on that many launch coasters. B&M verticle loops are always a good time, so any time there's 2 of them is more than welcome. It's a really good way to start the day at Islands and is more than worthy to be in the same park as Velocicoaster and Hagrids.

Honestly the world needs more inclined launches. I mean how many have we really had? Basically just Hulk, Space Mountain in Paris, Lightning Rod (rip), Storm Coaster, and if we stretch it then Tornado at Bakken I guess? These things seem to be amazing ways to start a coaster, heck some of these rides are among the most iconic in the world, yet it is so extremely rare!

Just made a trip here for the first time a month ago. I went by myself, and the single rider lines are awesome. While hulk was a 30 minute wait, I went on 4 times in a row and just walked on. Almost every single rider line was a walk on. Even on Saturday most of them were a walk on or less than 15 minutes while the regular line was an hour

i remember riding this back in early feb 2020 right before the global shutdown. sadly near the end of january i got hit with the worst flu i've ever had so going to universal i wasn't 100% recovered, but i said i was not going to post pone vacation. well i get on the hulk my 1st night in row 5. i swear it must have been me still recovering because that launch felt extra forceful and i started graying out a tad, but came back full sight just after the launch exit. i re-rode it last year for the 1st time since 2020, and for me this time the launch felt punchy, but not the grey out kick me in the teeth feel from last time.

Fun fact that fake track for the entrance is former old track and that train on it is an OG train. Also about the smoothness, as of recently Kumba was given new wheels and a few tweaks to somehow be as smooth as Mako. So I wonder if something like that can impact the smoothness on these types of B&M coasters.

What the heck was the point of the retrack. Typical new B&M roughness.

Hulk is intense. The first time I rode it, I had a massive grey out in the valley between the launch and cobra roll.

It’s cool how as a kid I also was super intimidated by The Hulk except I didnt build up the courage to ride it and did duelimg dragons instead - I’d credit it for piquing my interest in coasters for sure

This is interesting, I rode it a long time ago, 2012 if I'm not mistaken, definitely before the retrack and remember thinking it was super smooth, could it be that if got rougher after this retrack and new trains or is the experience still about the same now and I'm misremembering?

i went to universal for the first time last summer and only got 1 ride on it, but i remember just how cool it was to get shot out of that massive tube with the Hulks roar in your ears. the first half os top tier and the second half kinda boring in my opinion. It's kinda sad that the second half is not that good, because this is such an iconic ride. Wish i could have ridden it more!

fun fact: Hulk was used in the movie House on Haunted hill, the scene its used in is cheesy just like the roller coaster scene in Final Destination 3 but its not bad. Also, best seat on Hulk is in the back row, double buckle seat

went on this a few days ago for the first time. it was actually a longer line than velocicoaster. it’s very intense, you gray out during the 1st half, but the ride is kinda rough.

It’s just not the same without the roar. It doesn’t seem as intimidating anymore, it seems like it lost its character. Still love the ride & park tho💚

I rode it before and after the retrack and I still grey out. The first time I thought it was me but it happens every time. Still a great coaster with great theming!

A quick correction about the track at the entrance of the ride: It's from the original version of the ride.

On my most recent vacation in October, I greyed out at the bottom of the valley all through the cobra roll and recovered right before the vertical loop lol. It was weird because I had never greyed out that intense, even on this ride.
