I might be a year late but honestly it is so cool to see Sydney through the eyes of someone visiting! The stations and modes of transport you see are so familiar to me, and it’s actually awesome that something so ordinary in my life is impressive to people overseas. I’m sure I’d be amazed by similar stuff in the US if I went back!

My dad rode the original Big Dipper back in the day as he used to be a regular visitor of Luna Park Sydney, I got to know some perspective history of the park from him and while it may not be big at least it's historic, I hope they can eventually get the Wild Mouse back open soon, great to see you loving Sydney in general.

As someone who did ride a wooden wild mouse (Blackpool before it closed, rode it in its last month) it’s definitely a experience, probably the highest amount of forces I’ve felt on a wooden coaster but they weren’t all good forces. What I will say is that ride type is clearly a nightmare to maintain and I completely get why Luna park closes theirs regularly.

@drdewott9154

Yeah, the 1994 big dipper is the ride now known as the Gold Coaster. It was originally removed from Luna park Sydney due to a large number of noise complaints about the ride. Honestly a bit of a shame because that ride would just be really imposing right there on the waterfront.

I’ve ridden this in the back and while sure, it rattles, I’ll never understand why coaster enthusiasts see that as a big deal… its not painful and feels wild! Doesn’t bother me at all. Also the intamin single rails are clearly aimed at a different demographic.. on their website they’re classed as a family thrill coaster… which is a perfect fit. Not everything has to be RMC level intense… keep doing what you’re doing Intamin!

I agree. I rode this two weeks ago for the first time. I was one seat from the front and I didn't notice the shake at al. I was waiting for it after watching a POV. I thought it was a great ride. I have ridden all the Big Dippers and I'd rate this second after the original woodie. All the public I've spoken to seem to love the new version. Sometimes enthusiasts overlook what the general public thinks is a great ride.

Man this is very interesting. Honestly the vibe of this park reminds me a LOT of Bakken, like its clear that they have a similar vibe. The kind of rides there and the way they're setup as well as like the food stands and side things, it all gives me a very similar vibe. But both of the places are also old school city amusement parks so it would make sense that they'd be similar like that. I honestly also think a Hot Racer would be a great fit at Bakken if they could find the room for it. I know another park here in Denmark has been eying the model, that being Tivoli Friheden in Aarhus. Another small City amusement park thats a little more upscale. Also like I guess Luna Park is now the 2nd city centre amusement park you've been to thats accessible by Boat after Gröna Lund.

We used to have 'Australia's Wonderland' which was built by KECO at the same time as Canada's Wonderland, Kings Island and Kings Dominion. Sadly when Paramount bought the North American parks, Australia's Wonderland wasn't on the list. It was bought by an Asian theme park company and then eventually closed..

That wasn't the Pacific Ocean! It was the Tasman Sea. Which tickled me only because when I took my mother down there she kept saying, "There's the ocean!" which allowed me to respond, "ACTUALLY that's the _______." We spent weeks in coastal cities - Melbourne, Sydney and Cairns - and we 'geographically' only saw the ocean once, when we took the Great Ocean Road west of Melbourne. Yeah, technically seas are parts of the ocean, but where's the fun in allowing that boring technicality?!

Could it be that Big Dipper has a rattle cause they have partially concrete foundations for the footers and partially 'transportable' foundations for half of the coaster?

A Pluto Pup is your equivalent to a Corn Dog. After just visiting Disneyland and lunch cost $50usd and got less food I no feel terrible about our park food prices here in Aus. Sad you missed the Wild Mouse. Yes it 100% sketchy as and you feel like you are going to die but it adds to the thrill. Hope you rode the back for Boomerang cause you get a great pop of air time at the start. Yea it is a pity there is a shudder on Big Dipper but the seats are a lot more comfortable than RMC Raptors. Raptors beat this one I think because of the shudder but also the Big Dipper had so many limitations put on it so couldn’t go big.

“World’s steepest railway”. Incorrect. Scenic Railway is classified as an inclined lift because it uses a winch and no counterbalancing carriage, while funiculars use a winch and a counterbalancing carriage. Look to the Hogwarts Express at Islands of Adventure for an example. The steepest railway is the Pilatus Railway in Switzerland, which has a maximum gradient of 48% and an average gradient of 35%. This means it climbs a maximum of 48 feet per 100 feet traveled, and an average of 35 feet per 100 feet travelled.
