old skool techno at its finest!!.I used to play this game all the time with my nWo painted car.
@nthgth4 ай бұрын
Is this techno? I never really understood what that actually was other than a subgenre of EDM. I know I love it though, since the '90s!
@EminencePhrontАй бұрын
@@nthgth It's not really techno. It's more like late 90s Italo-disco.

@@EminencePhront then Italy has a very different definition of Disco from America lol This is pretty much a low-key, instrumental, computer-instrumented rock tune.

@@nthgth Listen to "Self Control" by Laura Branigan or "Cheri Cheri Lady" by Modern Talking for 80s examples of Italo disco. You can clearly hear the lineage in this song.
@nthgthАй бұрын
@@EminencePhront yeah, I guess I hear some similarity. I still say it's just rock with computery-generated instruments. Calling it something else (especially something exotic-sounding like Italo disco) and not using real instruments probably helped a tune's chances on the Top 40 list.

Okay but can we talk about the quality of the midis for this game? That kick drum sounds so good, most bass drum midis for around when this game came out sound like the big garbo

The musics in this game are actually composed in a different way. When i tried to extract the music tracks using the N64 Midi Tools, it seems that the music tracks were in .xm format.

I always thought the Mountain stage music sounded like it was from Sega Genesis lol. But these drums are pretty good.

What in the world... this game has been in my house for as long as I've been alive. I've maybe played it like once or twice in my life. Never thought about it beyond just being "one of the car games on N64." I don't get OST recommendations often. When I do, it's usually about games that I've recently been watching videos on or that have some direct correlation to them. I haven't looked up anything to do with this game, Midway, or even racing games in general save for maybe Mario Kart or F-Zero. I rarely click OST recommendations outside of a select few types, so it's not like this is the result of some rabbit hole I've gone down. I know the KZbin algorithm is wonky with its recommendations, but it was genuinely creepy to see this game randomly pop up here of all places. Like, what, are the google cookie ninjas breaking into my drawer to look through all my old N64 games??

Indeed, the composer was Barry Leitch who used to be composing many soundtracks for AMIGA games. Also the Nintendo 64 uses almost the same soundchip of the Commodore AMIGA (using PCM samples) just with more than 4 channels. Result is a soundtrack sounding like .MOD music
