I love that you use a Sinad machine to tune the receiver of a radio.

Nice video I like the content. It's awesome to see that you're progressing forward. A lot of different radio operators like their radio setup differently and run them differently.. keep up the good work

Sorry for the late comment, Matt. Have been crazy busy of late. Good explanation of the necessity of a sinad for a proper alignment. That was MarveIous Marvin with a mouth full of marbles on the radio check come back. 🤣 I picked up a "new old stock" cobra (palomar) 150 amp. 2 pill Toshiba powered. It has 4 power settings, 40 to 200 watt max max on SSB, with 1 to 10 watt input. Have it on the base station right now but have not powered it up for lack of time and no skip when I do get on. Do not need it for local broadcasting. Your base antenna, in a tree, setup made me laugh! When setting up my base and testing everything as it was assembled, before erecting the Tram 1498, I used a President magnetic mount on top of an upside down metal garbage can. I was getting out 5 miles!!! I think we are diehard and hardcore radio rabid. 73, smilin' and laughing, I'm off the key.

Yes I think the sinad is one of the most crucial readings when doing an alignment or showing someone how well a receiver is really working. That amp you have sounds like the old "quad power" that I think they used to make. I bet it's built pretty well. The antenna on the trash can is actually one I have heard before so your not alone, lol. 😄 Take care 73

Sweet!! I have the same 203 with my McKinley. As long a guys don’t overdrive it, she will last. Shot AM/SSB skip from coast to coast, Canada to Mexico and she sure does shine. Also good nice see that I have about(tad more) the same power coming out. Always wondered how accurate my meter was. Matt, your going to sell out of those fast!!!

Good deal man! They are definitely a good bang for the buck. Glad you're having some fun with yours. I'm hoping this gentleman will get to experience the same thing minus the ssb. Thanks for stopping by Bill, 73

Was that Charlie Brown’s teacher on the radio check 😂😂😂, you need to get that guys radio on the bench and then explain to him not to eat the microphone when he’s talking lol Nice job ,, I just installed this same radio in my Jeep , and a new roof mount Wilson 5K . I like the illuminated faceplate . Hated to get rid of my old classic Uniden PC 76 but she needs a rest and a tune up on your bench !!

Haha yea I know, I didn't have the heart to tell him! They seem like good rigs so you should be doing a fine job with yours especially with that roof mount 5k. Run her hard and see what happens. What kind of jeep you got? I'm a bit of a jeep guy myself 👍

@@TheRadioGarage I have a 2002 Grand Cherokee AWD I Bought it December 2012 , when it was 10 years old with 33K miles on it . It’s been my daily for over 8 years and been flawless . Only 150K now at 19 years old and still looks n runs great . I’ll send some pics of the install and all that . Looks clean , I put all the cabling , etc under the headliner . Had to order the 66 inch whip and trim a little off , the 62 inch stinger that came with the antenna was way too short , a big problem Wilson refuses to acknowledge , I was so pissed off and aggravated. But I got my SWR’s down to 1.1 and 1.25 across the band . Is the number I have for you a cell ? If not I’ll snail-mail a few pics

Awesome, I had a 2000 Grand w/ the V8 that I really liked. Hard to beat those things. I never really had much of a radio setup in that though. Hoping to get my current ride going with a nice mobile unit when time permits. Good luck with it! 73

I'm thinking about buying the 203. I've never had an amp before. Just bought a galaxy 959 that talks really good. 32w pep and 2w dead key turned all the way down. So I could buy this amp, turn down to 2w dead key, and it would work fine ? I just want a little more juice in my pickup truck when I need it. I can talk all over the country on sideband but on AM I might as well forget it lol

I've watched a lot of videos surrounding different amplifiers and a lot may already know this but thought I'd mention it for those who dont. Though the rm Italy Amps are affordable but aren't the cleanest which I have yet to see any that are super clean. The manufacturer suggests running a low pass filter with them to eliminate harmonics. There's a video of the kl203 here on KZbin showing with and without a low pass filter. There's a lot of different opinions out there and accuracy of videos are questionable but whether a filter is there or not it doesn't seem to affect power output. I personally don't have a kl203 or fancy radio equipment but I do have a much smaller one and with it on it affected swr, after adding a low pass filter swr went back to normal. Just a little food for thought that if it doesn't affect performance why not add it to prevent any possible interference, kind of like covering your tracks. This guy in the videos seems very knowledgeable of what hes doing and doesn't seem to hide anything as some others might. I just think why it wasn't mentioned is probably because he figures people should already know this or that they read the instructions that come with the amp. So no fault on him but I do think it should be mentioned for the new guys who dont understand everything on day one.

I got the same setup in my car and every time I key the mic with the amp on it is like it is stuck and I do not hear the radio noise. I have to turn off amp and then I can hear the radio like normal. Any ideas?

Just got my kl203, I have a Cobra 25 with a tram 3500 magnetic base antenna. Swr is almost at 1 before amp and 2w dead key. Hooked amp up, keyed mic and radio went haywire like some reverse polarity or something. Turned amp off and back on went back to normal, I keyed mic and went bazzurk on me again needle was all over the place. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I’d like a stinger board on a Uniden pc68ltx to test out for our local loggers, cutters, rigging men,,, a good compact setup for inside a pickup that’ll reach out and touch someone with a factory look! Thoughts? Interested in trying it? I’ve got a brand new pc68ltx I’ll gladly send
