You may prefer not to reveal this information of course, and I, at least would understand. The level of your knowledge, competence and willingness to "educate as you operate" is refreshing.. Hi there SG , glad your enjoying the vids. To answer your question about how I learned about this stuff is the same as most others in this hobby..self taught. A lot of reading and experimenting on broken equipment. Your right about the old school techs from the hay day leaving us, I would love to pick their brains before they are all gone! Thank you for the response. Matt. I began in the mid 60's, by opening up a Japanese transiter radio. Tubed radios were already a thing of the past and they would not fit in your pocket. I had a mentor for a while in the early 90's. A gentleman that worked at GE for 30 odd years. Sadly, he passed away. He was in his 80's. Understand how to, but lack all the proper equipment to do what is essential. Have enough on my bench to service and maintain my own and will work occasionally on someone else's radio that is not too far gone. I do not consider myself to the calibur that you are. I will not become a "golden screwdriver" by pretending to do what is necessary without the right equipment. For me it is a hobby. I will send the real work your way. Respect! 73's. I have no idea how to to turn down my dead key watts output on this Road King RKCBBT radio. I’m running a Palomar 225 black face box. Question? Can those old Palomar 225 handle 3.5 - 4 watts input? Mine seems to like low and medium and on high may be slightly over powered. Maybe. Sometime other radios say it sounds clear and other times slightly off on high. But the box only ever gets slightly warm. It’s a Mobil unit and talks great skip from coast to coast. Thanks. Nice work. Your equipment setup is Primo.

I haven’t set up one of those 225 amps in a while. From what I remember they only like around 2 watts deadkey put into them.

Back in the 90's I got scolded by a shop owner for having an amp. Seems everyone is running amps now. I wish I still had mine since it was set up to my radio but i got rid of it.

I'm a trucker pushing 300 watts,we love swinging meters!, most conversations are in 10 to 20 second increments ,semi clean is good enough,I'm talking 40 miles to base stations. Other mobiles are getting me 25 miles. When skip is rolling I'm getting mexico,Arizona ; and Canada. It lands where it wants.but you have to key down c.b. nuts,and you have to walk over Hard drive. He's a nuisance. Moon Raker out.
