Hey Mike, watching more of your awesome videos. That was my Cobra 29 Plus with the display segments out. Meticulous work as always. Like I said just love this radio. I'm from the 80s and so is it. She is still running great.....sooo much fun with this 1987 Cobra. Well done sir.

Great looking radio. Super Clean. I personally think Cobra put these type of radio's out after the Back to the future movies came out, Thinking they would sell a good bit of them to the hard core fans of the movie. They just have that aesthetic that screams Back to the Future, at least to me they do lol. I had the 19 Plus version. Funny story, I had the 19 Plus installed in my Bedroom as a base station, My dad heard the beeping when I was changing channels and thought that I was broadcasting that beep over the airwaves, I got into trouble until I explained and showed him that it was just beeping when hitting the buttons. He then told me I needed to figure out how to turn that blasted beeping off lol. Ah, good times good times 🙂

Great video as always Mike. Had just learned about common cathode or anode displays by restoring a Pace 8155 base station and found out about the illumunation by VOM trick by accident. Replaced the 7 seg LEDS and cleaned the chan. selector. Works great except during a transciever alignment a 455kc I.F. transformer let loose. Anyway thanks once again for an excellent video!

Just FYI I just opened a 29 Plus due to the LED acting funky and the display assembly is a one-piece assembly. Built in December 88 so they made a change somewhere along the line.

Very nice looking rig, but that bleep would drive me to distraction, it is just a tad louder than I can tolerate, but maybe once on the road it might not be loud enough, but a mute or Low tone switch might have been nice, not even quieter, a lower tone. Nice one Mike.

What about using a hair dryer set on medium heat should let you peal off the decal, Those green displays are also found on the 40 channel DNT radio made in Germany.

As a trucker i keep a cobra 29ltd classic on ch19 all the time for work. However, after work the ic-7000 comes out to play. The 29ltd is a workhorse. I do miss the 2 - 148gtl's at home but they are not practical for an otr driver. Nor is the fiddly ic-7000.

That decal you might be able to duplicate using a printer... printed on top of using the old over head project films. and then maybe glue it on using Rubber cement?

Hi, I have my Grandfathers Cobra 19 plus that is in need of restoration. It works sometimes. I found an old tech bulletin online for replacing C54 but it doesn't say what the problem is. I was wondering if you knew? and what would you recommend I do to the radio to make it like new? Replace ALL caps? retune? etc?

I have a 29 plus and a question .I C 6 which is a TA17808W is possibly causing the IC 1 to get real hot. Last night I think I accidently blew the IC 6. Now I have a TA 17808 ,will this one work the same as a replacement .
@mikesradiorepair5 жыл бұрын
It's just a 7808 eight volt regulator. Any 7808 regulator will work. Manufacturers just add on extra digits and or letters to the base part number.
