i have a nightwatch with the light-up panel broken, is there a way i can fix it without buying a new front panel?
@JohnnyNJones Жыл бұрын
Yes as I recall there is a resistor that can burn out I’ve been told that will possibly knock out that front display

Great video Johnny ..... I can see you are newer to the electronics biz , and you do say it honestly that you do have to look things up.... Kudo's to you for that .... You did right by putting the limiter back in line ..... That swing kit was invented by 3 guys in Southwest Louisiana , and it does work well with amps ..... The capacitor should have been a 33 to 47 MFD at 16 volts or higher and the resistor 56 to 80 or so ohms ..... Build you a RF sampler so you can hook radios up to your O-Scope to adjust the modulation so it's clean ..... We also invented the Roger fa rt , to lower the tone of the high shrill of the roger beeps , also the variable fa rt tone control to change the sounds of the roger beep.... I worked on 2 way radios for over 20 years, and had a successful business and a great name in the industry ..... I am going to open up shop again after a 25 year hiatus..... Take care and keep on learning , don't stop lil buddy ......

I appreciate all your kind words I have yet to get myself an oscilloscope but I am still studying and hopefully in the next few months I’ll be able to get one And right now sir is the perfect time to get back into Radio repair It is growing once again In the paraphrased words of Roy Orbison “ success is like a tree all the leaves die in the winter but there’s always going to be another spring” And I think that’s what’s happening to CB Radio Because cell phones may have been more practical, but CB radio will always be more magical. God bless n 73s my friend

I just came across a 29ltd that had the d11 clipped and and the damn ext spkr wired to the pa with just a piece of wire.... no resistor at all and it sounded terrible hahaha - damn golden srewdrivers

Oh yeah man I run across a lot of stuff like that. Thanks for watching this old video it doesn’t get many views But it was an important learning process for me

it might do you some good to get one of those $100 tiny oscilloscope's... they aren't ideal, but better than nothing on a limited budget..... and I don't know if you have a dummy load, but they are easy to build.
@JohnnyNJones3 жыл бұрын
Yes I’ve looked into those oscilloscopes my friend, but as of right now I don’t have a lot of room to be repairing radios and I’m trying to learn theory more than anything at this point and yes I’ve just built a dummy load on my channel. But the Dummy load I use has a higher power rating and that video was simply to show how to build them. Thanks for commenting

@@JohnnyNJones I'm an old navy sonar tech, and I've found the best way to learn theory is by doing it. Take that old cobra, get a repair manual for it, and start probing it with a scope, that with a little ohm's law will teach you a lot. Set up some experiments to test your theories. I love your spirit, and I hope you never it never gets old for you. I'm more focused on antenna theory and cable dynamics, and use SDR radios and antenna analyzers to test my theories. Your tools are key to learning what's going on. Best of luck to you my friend.

@@joestreiff9401 Wow that’s certainly what I’m interested in as well, thank you for the kind words. I am obsessed with resonant circuits standing wave ratios, antenna radiation resistance,imaginary numbers, Complex impedances, inductive and capacitive reactances I’m also really interested in transmission line theory and the phase angle of waves
