That's crazy, I always thought he was German. He looks completely like a German man and has a last name that sounds completely German. Always thought he was a great actor, and while being Jewish myself, I had no clue that this man was from the same background.

First, the movie that made him famous is entirely an anti bullying movie but the irony of course is that many people can't differentiate between the actor and character they're playing (Archie Bunker comes to mind). Zabka spoke about the treatment he got from fans of the movie. In a way the anti-bullying movie resulted in the actor getting bullied. I think there are a lot of people like Martin who weren't that close to the religion and are trying to keep some of the traditions alive for their kids. I also noticed sometimes those kids would find it themselves once they had kids. All of a sudden making Shabbat dinner a special thing vs the normal supper becomes important. It's a great excuse to get the whole family together once a week, no excuses, no hanging out with friends doing nothing but staring at your phones...

Thank you. I have had a real love/hate relationship with Judaism. I don't believe most of it as a religion (as I believe it is largely man-made), and I did not appreciate the Jewish chauvinism/anti-Christian bigotry in my house and family. But I also experienced anti-semitism in middle and high school, and I had to learn how to laugh it off (this was the 1970s in deep-Suffolk County New York). But now, after October 7th, I feel so much more conscious of my background and so angry at the anti-Israel and anti-semitism that I've seen. I could barely control my rage when I saw protesters going for what seemed forever yelling "From the river to the sea ..." and the claims that Israel is engaged in a genocide. So now, oddly enough, I feel the need to connect with my heritage, even if I don't really believe in the religion. Wish I had someone I could talk with about this...

We share the same background. Im from the same area and era. Being Jewish is more than religion. Anyone can convert to being Jewish or convert to another religion entirely. Its also a culture.... education...family .... food.... holidays .... and lastly...we are a people....we have a distinct genetic identity.... you will ways be Jewish person...we are cousins.... that is your ethnicity.

Obviously, it was not a kosher restaurant. A kosher restaurant would never agree to open during Passover, as that would jeopardize its kosher status!

Not necessarily. Where I grew up there was a family restaurant/grocer that koshered for Passover and catered to families in the daytime before Passover started obviously- then during Chol HaMoed they were open selling kosher for Passover selections. Unfortunately the family business has closed since then… 😢 I’m grateful for the memories
