It's fairly common for A330s to be used for short high density routes in Asia. That is why almost every asian airline has an A330 ceo fleet and, of course, this role can be filled by the neo as well. Many A330s are just so new that they do not need replacing yet.

I feel like the A330neo is the perfect aircraft for Asian and African carriers. Today, we found that Air Algerie decided to pick the A330neo over the 787 and Indigo is almost certain to order the A330neo if they consider widebodies.

@@KindaClueKaden I fly both Boeing and Airbus products. Both are great. Both have pros and cons. The problem is that Boeing listened too much to SouthWest in regards to the 737 and the cockpit, even the MAX is not modern. The 757 is a sexy airplane. But it’s also outdated. I wish Boeing had a replacement for the 73 and 75.

@@augustbehle3589 Those are the people I appreciate the most. I'm actually more of an Airbus fan but I do like many Boeing jets even the controversial ones like the Max and 777X. Yes, the 787 is the superior aircraft to the A330neo but that does not mean I cannot see the advantages of the neo. The fuel efficiency is almost identical for flights under 7 hours. There are many routes especially in Asia, Africa and even the US that don't require the range of the 787 but need 2-3 flights per day. By making improvements on the A330neo to better cater that segment, Airbus can tap to this little market and make it superior to the 787. It is happening already. If you cannot beat your competitor, you create a niche to beat them on.

Honestly, this change to the 330neo is my favourite part. I not only love an underdog story, but this demonstrates Airbus's design philosophy and why they're becoming so successful in recent years. Adapting the aircraft this way will also do wonders for carbon efficiency, and it's good to see Airbus doing this with existing tech, instead of just waiting for newer technologies. @Steven Strain except that in regards to Airbus, if a company has a A320 running a certain flight and during the busy season they are constantly fully booked, they can rotate in an A330 for a few months. They can even use the same pilots. Can’t do that as easy with the 737 and 787.

@Steven Strain I would agree that most 787 guys would be typed on the 737 as well. But I doubt most 737 guys are typed on anything bigger. Having flown Boeing products myself since 2009, I’ve added Airbus 2 years ago. I’m typed in the 340 but can get typed on the 320 in 6 days. To get typed on the 330 is 1 day. It’s a philosophy that is now starting to pay off for Airbus. Companies start mixed fleet flying. It’s easier to do in an Airbus compared to Boeing.

If one looks at the orders still outstanding: 90+% are ALL air lease corporations... in other words, no major airline is actually ordering the plane other than Delta for the ~most part. This is the rental car of the skies going forward it appears outside of Delta and a couple other small carriers.. I smell MASSIVE discounts for those air lease corporations. Makes one wonder what the ACTUAL load/fuel consumption numbers are. They must be bad compared to 787 otherwise this plane SHOULD be selling to actual airline customers instead of rental air lease corporations only.

Even with completely new designed aircraft like the a350 or a380 the cockpit philosophy and design is still basically the same as it was in the first a320 back in 1987. This allows pilots to have ratings for different aircraft at the same time. There are pilots at Lufthansa that fly a330/a340/a350 which are quite different planes in size, number of engines and age. Hi, I love the A330neo for its glide range! I've tried both the A320neo and the A330neo in MSFS at similar settings, similar fuel and payload loading (relative to MTOM) and then have turned the engines off at a given altitude and point and tried gliding as far as possible and man, eventhough the airplanes do handle similar, the A330neo outperformed anything out there, even the 787. Insane. No wonder that the record glide range was the Air Transat A330 in 2001. It's a true hawk / eagle glider! (my size is L or XL if there are any left - thank You!)

I love the versatile design that Airbus is giving to the a330neo, for routes between Latin America where air travel is quite expansive, it would serve a grand part of the local economy. Azul Linhas Aereas have some of them and uses them for both long and short haul routes between Brazil and Europe, this could mean that the South American economy could go up because of how many tourists could come here. So in conclusion, the a330neo is not only a plane that innovates the aviation section, is an airplane that could help expand the local economies. BTW, my shirt size is SM lol

I think my favorite thing about the 330 in general is that it's the perfect mix of modernity while keeping things old school. Moderately sized displays, no touch screens, all button controls and that "retro" 320 cockpit look. And about the 330 neo... what's not to love! The elegant wingtips, the massive engines and that stupidly beautiful mask in the front windows. I love this plane, and hope that airlines do indeed ramp orders for it. XS.

The development debacle of the 787 took much longer and massively exceeded its predicted budget. Entry into service was plagued by battery fires and engine problems and most recently the aircraft has had production problems. The A330 NEO was a drama free modest refresh of an existing successful design and its mere presence in the market suppressed the price of the 787. The 787 has lower fuel consumption than the A330 NEO but at a time of low fuel prices the wider availability of rated pilots, good operating service reliability and continuous airframe tweaking make the A330 NEO a worthy competitor.

As an Indian, India does need 320 airports but the Indian government is building around a 100 for now because India is on a tight budget. India needs to increase its defense budget from +-$75b to around $100bn to cater needs like a new supercarrier. India's infrastructure has really been growing rapidly with new cities, expressways, etc. but more money needs to be spent on maintenance. India's civil aviation sector has been rising, and India chose to make big 100 airports using sort of a hub and spoke model, building airports in the prime location with highest demand with nearby areas/cities that are secondary having high demands as well.

Im a Small. I love the A330, I used to be a die hard ‘if it ain’t boeing I’m not going’ kinda person. But when QFA put A330s on the east to west coast run in Australia, I fell in love with the bigger cabin and enhanced comfort of them. You just felt so much better after 4.5hrs in a 330 compared to a B738. I also used to think their winglets (on the A330-200, not the neo) looked silly but I’ve really grown to love them. They’re one of my favourite aircraft now, I actively look for them

I honestly doubt that the A330neo will do such a "comeback". Many big A330 operators like Saudia, American Airlines, Air Canada or Singapore Airlines for example are ditching (or have ditched) the A330 in favour of the 787, which shows that the 787 is the preferred aircraft. Some Airbus loyalists may still commit to the aircraft (like Delta or Iberia for example) but I strongly doubt that it will attract that many customers. A good example of this is Lufhtansa, they didn't bother with the A330neo, they commited for the 787, even though the A330neo is a "homemade" aircraft. To be honest, cockpit commonality may be a big deal for some airlines, but it has to be highlighted that the 787 shares a common type rating with the 777, and that is a big deal for many airlines that operate the 777. And one thing that is not being said about the A330neo is that the engines that it uses are not performing as well as they promised. Tap Air Portiugal has said it on a few occassions, the engines are not performing as well as they should, and that really does impact the fuel effciency. If most airlines are choosing the 787 instead of the A330 currently, there has to be a noticeable difference on the performance/reliability aspect.
@neilpickup237
@neilpickup237 Жыл бұрын
To be fair, there is logic in your argument. However, it misses the point of the video. It was not talking about replacing the A330ceo, but hypothesising a new or growing market segment of transporting more passengers over a relatively short distance in a twin aisle aircraft, something which as yet the 787 is a poor (and expensive) choice. While the A330neo may not be taking many, if any sales away from the 787, which does what it does well, exceptionally well, the 787 without modifications may take few if any orders for this new market, which the A330neo appears ideally placed as the only suitable aircraft currently available. Not only that, but unlike the 787, it does not have a massive order book, so it is ideally placed to help fill this growing segment more quickly.
@f0x4nn3
@f0x4nn3 Жыл бұрын
Also remember that the 787 is longer for sale, which means lot of airlines already had some. Adding a different model to the fleet not only means crew training but also training for maintenance people ETC. Also airlines that do cancel their 787 order have to pay a fine. Also the 787 benefit from it's lower fuel burn and bigger cargo space which can make it more profitable then the A330 NEO long run. I love the A330 NEO, and it seems the best choice for shorted hops. But sadly one everything else the 787 has a slight edge.

The idea that the a330 is a short-medium haul king and that the 787 performs poorly in this seg is unjustified and unproven. The 787-10 is an overall better medium hauler than the a330-900. These two basically share the same empty weight while the 787-10 can carry 50+ more passenger, has far more cargo capacity and has a lower seat cost. The only way the a330neo becomes competitive in the medium haul seg is if they fit 9 seats across, other than that the 787 is overall better.

or, just being super cheaper and faster to deliver. If an airline already got a 787 that's over, but otherwise, Airbus may convince that A330neos would save the cost to switch to 787s.

I love you brought up Cebu Pacific as an example because their regular A330neo is configured to 460 seats. I love that domestic flights are getting more crowded each day, which requires more widebodies for even short hops. If this trend continues more airlines will be forced to put more widebodies into use, and is a win-win for us passengers.
