Hi Karen, thank you so much for taking time to make these helpful videos. We get our Cockapoo 'Millie' in 3 weeks time and your advice regarding what to look out for when buying a dog was invaluable. We have found a breeder who is lovely and genuine. The pups are very well looked after and we get photos and videos every week showing their progress too. Now it's time to research the training part.

Hello Scott, I’m so pleased that you found my advice on buying a puppy helpful, and it makes it all worthwhile for me. It’s an exciting time preparing to welcome a puppy into the family, and you’ll have lots of laughter and love to look forward to. Hopefully you’ll find the Cockapoo Training videos helpful, but do shout out if there are any other areas you’d like us to cover, and we’ll give it some thought. Give Millie a cuddle from us when she arrives. Karen

Hello Catherine, Thank you for your kind words. It's good to know that the videos are proving helpful. I'm glad you like the music - me too, though I guess it's a bit like Marmite, you either love it or hate it, and I've had a few comments from people who aren't keen on it at all. Enjoy your training with Millie, and have fun. Kindest Regards, Karen

Thank you Jas. Dill is now an adult cockapoo at nearly three years old. She had been working as a 'Pets as Therapy' dog, going into a school where children would read to her. It reduced their stress if they were struggling with reading, and she was doing a great job. Unfortunately the lockdown stopped all that. I was a volunteer dog trainer at a Kennel Club registered dog training society, so I was busy there and we also went to obedience classes where Dill was put through her paces. When I start back in my volunteer training role, Dill will come along, but will be in the reception area to meet and greet helping new owners and their puppies / dogs to learn how to socialise with other dogs. Until then her days are spent patrolling the garden, sleeping, going on dog walks, meeting friends, being groomed, playing in the small paddling pool, having lots of cuddles, playing with our son's dog... in fact, living a dog's life. Kindest Regards, Karen

@svsfilm
@svsfilm 3 жыл бұрын
Hello there, I think the sit command is probably in the very earliest episodes, but I'll go through it here.... with a tiny treat in your hand, and with the puppy standing in front of you gently move the treat upwards and backwards just over the puppies head. As the puppy follows your hand movement, his or her head will point upwards and they will put their weight back on their haunches - in other words, they will sit. Praise and treat. Once the puppy is doing this 95% of the time, introduce the word 'sit'. Once this is established start reducing the treats - sometimes the puppy gets a treat, sometimes it doesn't, but it ALWAYS gets praise. All puppies can sit, so if it is a bit slow understanding what is required you can always praise and say the word 'sit' every time you see it sitting. Even if doesn't know why it is being rewarded initially, it will gradually associate the word with the action. Please don't press down on the back of your puppy - it rarely speeds up the process, and can cause frustration and fear. Good luck, and let me know how you get on - remember, patience and consistency coupled with fun! Kindest Regards, Karen

Hello there. Don’t forget that for your puppy the world is a huge and exciting place. Don’t drag her along. Give her time, patience, and gentle encouragement, and she will soon begin to enjoy the experience. It’s really important that puppies are exposed to lots of different sights, sounds, dogs and people, but in a supportive and safe way. Don’t assume every person or dog will love your pup’s company, so be selective. Above all, just enjoy being with her, and she will start to relax. Let us know how you get on.

Thank you so much for watching our videos, and for your kind words - it makes all the effort worthwhile. Congratulations on the two new family members on their way to you. Getting two puppies at the same time is a bold move. Plenty of hard work and fun ahead though. You ask about introducing the puppies to your cat. I would always say, let the cat introduce itself to the puppies in its own time. Always make sure there are escape routes and places out of reach of the puppies where the cat can just sit and observe, and make sure the cat continues to get the attention that he or she is used to. Make sure you train the puppies separately. I promise you, it will be much easier that way! Good luck, and have fun.

Hello there, Thanks for your interest in our clips. Dill is an F1B puppy: Her dam is an F1 cockapoo (cocker spaniel dam and miniature poodle sire), and her sire is a miniature poodle. We did a lot of research before locating her, as we wanted a home reared pup, but using an approved dna tested stud. Temperament was really important as I'd like her to be involved in pet therapy - looking very good so far!

Hi Karen, I love your videos we have just adopted a nine week old cockapoo called Luna. She is full of energy running around, biting and chewing and charging about, not at all quiet and sedate like Dill. How do we approach training her when either she is running around jumping all over the place or fast asleep as she has exhausted herself. She is into everything and even with eating she doesn't focus but eats a couple of pieces of kibble and then charges about. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks Melanie
@svsfilm
@svsfilm 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Melanie, You must be feeling a bit at a loss at the moment, but don't panic. If Luna is only nine week's old and you are her second home, she is probably quite churned up. Give her time to settle. Just do small bites of training, and try to be really calm, but consistent. As to her rushing around when she should be eating, again don't worry. Cockapoos can be fussy eaters, but in all probability she's probably a bit all at sea with the changes, just give her time and patience. Once she trusts you, and realises she is with you to stay, things will get easier. It might help to feed her kibble by hand - using it to get her to focus on you, and answer to her name. Once you have her attention, training will fall into place. Good luck, and let me know how you get on. Kind regards, Karen

@@svsfilm Thank Karen for your reply we are making great progress, Luna is learning to come and has got the sit command down now very well. She also is learning to lie down and leave it. I just wondered does Dill just have a particularly quiet/calm temperament and did you have her from being quite small since she is so calm? We are having issues with nipping particularly when she is over excited or tired but still wanting to play then she gets abit naughty and lunges and nips. She goes for feet, trouses hands and fingers and the more you try to let her know its not acceptible the more she does it. I have all kinds of chew toys and I am using ice cubes and frozen vegetables for her teething issues and I am trying to circumvent this behaviour by getting her to sit and focus on something else. Did you face these challenges with Dill? Best, Melanie
@svsfilm
@svsfilm 3 жыл бұрын
@@melaniepilkington5269 Hello Melanie, Dill does have a good temperament, but she's just like all other cockapoos in that she loves playing and racing around the garden or woods. Nipping and mouthing in puppies is perfectly normal, it's the way they play with their litter mates and your one is trying to get your attention and invite you to play. That's her motivation. If you want her to stop nipping, she needs to learn that you don't approve of it. Stand up tall and cross your arms, or just leave the room for a minute or two. If she needs a little more of a hint, make a disapproving sound as you stand. She will learn that she mustn't ask for attention this way. If you start playing with her, and she nips you, stop playing for a few seconds, when she settles start playing again, do this every time she nips while you are playing with her, and she will learn that nipping stops the fun. Let me know how you get on. Kindest regards, Karen

Just got my cockapoo yesterday. 8 weeks. How do I training her sit??
@svsfilm
@svsfilm 3 жыл бұрын
Hello there, kneel on the floor in front of your puppy with a treat in your hand. Put the treat near your puppy's nose and then move your hand slowly just above your puppy's head towards it's back. As the puppy raises its head, it will lower its bottom into the sitting position. When it is in the sit position, give the puppy the treat. Repeat four or five times then stop. When this motion is working 90% of the time, introduce the word 'SIT' each time. Your puppy will get the idea really quickly. If your puppy jumps up, your hand is too high. If your puppy gets excited, you are moving your hand too quickly. Time and patience is the key. Let me know how you get on. Kindest Regards, Karen

Hello there, Dill is an F1b Cockapoo, her mother is a cockapoo (she had a miniature poodle dad, cocker spaniel mum), and Dill's dad is a miniature poodle (DNA tested for common problems). Tea cup versions of dogs are bred to be a very small size, Dill is definitely not teacup size. Hope this helps.
