Thank you so much posting these great films. I was born and raised in South Africa. I grew up around trains in the 1950's as my grandfather and father worked for SAR and also Rhodesia Railways. My grandfather was assistant Superintendent of the Natal division reporting to Mr J.D.White. My father was a coach builder in Durban and later in Bulawayo. You mention Soul of A Railway. I have spent so many hours going through this fabulous collection of photos. I am now in my mid 70's and live in North America. I so enjoy watching your films. Thanks! sincerely.

Did the Rumble’s Electrical Store building got demolished?
@svsfilm26 күн бұрын
Yes, the Rumbelows building was demolished in the 1990's and the road junction location was slightly moved.

Even more great footage thanks ! I remember us kids 'Bunking' Guildford shed a few times, just go on to the station platform then under the bridge. It was easy to get in, we then just had to avoid the shed foreman. Guildford always had quite a few Q1 Austerity locos known as 'Charlies' on shed. Happy days !

I am pleased you enjoyed the film. Guildford shed and the train crews are featured on the DVD 'Guildford - an engineman's view' - details at svsfilm.com/gfd.htm

I know I did this line as a small child, but can't remember anything specific, except for the black locos that hauled us (probably BR 4MTs) being large and very scary when they whistled!

Although the track alignment doesn't exist anymore, after crossing Victoria Road the roads through the industrial estate and behind the retail park does follow the old railway route.

As the line proceeded, close to where the B&Q now is, there's a road fittingly named Invincible road that follows the old alignment for a way

Thank you for this, particularly the section on the Pietermaritzburg, Donnybrook, Franklin line, on which I worked as a fireman during my university vacations at the end of 1972 and 1973. Despite a few inaccuracies (coal and water were replenished many times along the route) it brings back many (very tough and hot!) memories.

Hi Karen, you & Dill are great! We have two Cockapoo pups, male littermates. Your videos have been invaluable to us. I return to them often. It was challenging in the beginning, but the pups are doing great. Thank you for helping me to feel confident grooming them. I’m enjoying your whole Cockapoo series, thank you!

Santa Fe locomotive 2926 is now back in operation again after a rebuilding process of 20+ years and this engine is a spectacular sight to see in action. Hopefully in 2024 ATSF engine 2926 will be able to start hauling excursion trains across New Mexico and i am eager to see that footage when it finally occurs.

The Bridal Centre is closed, at least last time I checked. But I had not realised that the Invincible Locomotive is at the Watercress Line. I have seen the locomotive at that line but didn’t know it was the same one till now. Weeds have also covered the rails, unless of course work has been done as of late.
@svsfilm9 ай бұрын
The video says at the end that 'Invincible' is on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway - the Watercress Line is not mentioned. Many thanks for your interest and for watching the film.

An Ivatt class 4 2-6-0 on Guildford shed! Was she en route back to the Midland from a visit to Eastleigh Works? My old eyes weren't able to see her number. I went on this line very many years ago and remember M7s being used. I also visited Guildford shed and recall a couple of stored G6s in it and a T9 in steam outside. 1:37 1:37
@svsfilm9 ай бұрын
Many thanks for your comments. Yes the 2-6-0 is number 43063 and it was shedded in North Blyth (52F) until it was withdrawn in 1967. A Guildford fireman recalls it had been at Eastleigh Works for some sort of repairs before returning via Guildford back north. It's certainly a long way from 'home'.
