Cockatoo Going To The Vet 2019 Version

No matter what year it is Max still feels the same way about going in his carrier.
Yesterday was nail trimming day. Max did good on the car trip and when we got back home he got lots of cuddles.

People are uneducated about birds. If he was abused he would be stressed and pulling out his feathers just for starters. Max is spoiled rotten and very well cared for.

People at times can get to critical of everything at times. I won't delist a video, or even care about the complaints. Granted I thought as well the last cage was to small myself as have cockatoos as well and they need a lot of room, but he resolve the issue when he moved, and he stated he needed help building the cage as he not physically able to. Now people complaining cage is to big is laughable? Seriously? So long if it fit in room it good, the bigger the better and bar spacing on that cage is good, nothing wrong with that cage. Perches a lot more to this topic, but that bird out all the time and different size perches, so not really a issue. Natural wood better, but not really a requirement. Plus I use a mix of dowel and natural wood perches myself. It depends on cage and what bird prefer? He not abusing the bird and bird is well care for like a child pretty much. He can upgrade, or people can sent him new perches later if it really bother them that much. No bird will not get bumblefoot just solely due to the dowel perches. It would have to be all the same size, bird not out of cage much and to small and sitting on same perch for hours at a time to cause bumblefoot as pressure is on the same spot all the time and what causes it. It usually more caused by bird being cage bound and in same spot all the time and neglected. He may not be the most perfect care taker, but he is trying his best and does clearly care and love that bird.

Complaints? Max has two tremendous and sparkly clean cages. Dozens of perches. Hundreds of toys constantly being renewed to keep his mind from getting bored...his physical condition is superb and he’s adored. I just wonder if I can move in with this man! I love it when Max mumbles from under his cage like a little old man in a park, mumbling over checkers. Thank you for being such a thoroughly perfect Bird Daddy. No, I don’t own a bird because I don’t have the tolerance for the loud noise they make. That screech from a larger bird can break windows. Almost. But I love animals, including these exquisite birds, and study their behavior. Max is calm, content and beautifully cared for. An oasis in a world of cruelty to animals that cannot be even thought of without pain. Thank you! Ok; now go get your nails done, Max.

Dan you are such a wonderful dad, I have my sulphur crested cockatoo for over 30 years, I don’t know how old he is But I m glad the pet shop where I brought him from cheated me. Told me he was a young bird and a female, well it was the other way around, when I took him to the bird doctor,he was not young and is a male, i love him dearly,he had out lived 4 dogs and a chinchilla, now he is the only pet I have, i m over 70 years old and survived cancer twice, my most fear is if something happens to me , who will take care of him, I pray and hope there will be someone out there , a person like you will adopt him ,

Dont waste your time with ignorant peoples comments as you obviously take the best of care of your beloved Max. If he hates having his nails clipped you are sure better off going to the Vet so Max doesnt get distrusting towards you. Let the Vet be the bad guy! Ha- Ha- Ha. By the way, if you need more room in your kitchen, they have wooden booth/ benches that would fit right net to your cabinets with storage under the seat, and still be able to use your chairs! -- Best wishes to you and your best friend Max! PS: Try Craigslist. Sometimes they sell the whole corner booth, but you dont need to use the corner piece if you cant fit it, but the two straight benches are great in an entry or wherever you need it. In my case I have both pieces side by side due to narrow dining room. Saves a lot of space and gains seating and storage. :)

You can leave money to him to help take care of him after your death. If you dont know anyone talk to the avian vet or store in your area and see if they have any programs.

I have done that for my dogs. They have a home for life with my daughter when I'm gone, she assures me. She's here almost every day and they love her to death and her husband, too. She has my legal power of attorney already (I'm mid-70s) and is my transportation and support for everything. She has earned the stars in her crown 10 times over. Like Dan has. Yes, need to provide for those pets before it gets too late.

To get my macaw to "go for a ride in the car" is a week long adventure. I have to tell him every day, counting down the days. On the day of the visit, I have to essentially trick him into hopping up to go see the dog, and when he does, we wisk into the dog room where the travel cage awaits. He says hi to the dog, blows kisses, sees the travel cage and begins to object. I reason with him that we'd been talking about going to the vet or whereever we're to go, and he lets me put him in the cage. He likes car rides about as much as a kid likes a roller coaster. He's very excited about all the new sights, sounds and traffic. He yells hello to everyone on the freeway, and does his little kitten purr when there's no one on the road. He has a very interesting relationship with his vet. Every time he tries to intimidate and scare the vet, but the vet is very good at subduing the belligerent bird. After the initial "I'm bigger than you" show, my bird allows the examination to happen, essentially without complaint.

Yes, birds really are just like toddlers. When my talking budgie, Brisbane (Brizzie), goes to the vet, I sit in the waiting room and play videos of him on my phone to take his mind off the stress. I feel like one of those mothers in the store whose little one is in the cart watching something on her phone. One time when I put my finger through the bars, he perched on it like he was holding my hand. He also has to have his favorite ball in the carrier. Then I feel awful when the vet approaches and Brizzie looks up hopefully and grabs the ball. He thinks the human is there to play! Poor baby.
