I’ve been watching Max videos for a long time. They’re great. They also serve a great purpose. Anyone that thinks they want to just go buy one of these beautiful, and intelligent birds, can see this takes a huge commitment. A special life changing commitment. They are sensitive emotional creatures that will try ones patience. I live in a rural area where cats show up at our door all the time. They have been brought out and dumped here buy owners that don’t want them any more. They are starving, and sick in most cases because they lived in a house and were suddenly thrown into a semi arid desert environment to survive. It breaks my heart. A bird like this brought into a home is a LIFETIME commitment, these birds can live 40-60 years in captivity. So please observe how much love and time this man spends with his bird. If you want on-ramp think CAREFULLY because it’s a huge commitment.

It's amazing how well they are at mimicking not only our speech but our mannerisms. In that angry frustrated voice, he flaps his wings and shoves his head around and puffs up his feathers. I'm assuming those things are things left over from survival behaviors in the wild, to intimidate potential predators. Except, he mixes in that human frustration, which fits up perfectly with how he must be feeling. We kinda do the same, we deliver our words with more physically pronounced actions, using our hands to demonstrate frustration, aggressive movements, and being prepared for hostility. If any pet is told they have to go to the vet, thats probably how they would act if they could properly communicate with us. Just something like "I am NOT GOING. I will NOT let that STRANGE MAN touch my FEET. ABSOLUTELY NOT. IVE HAD IT UP TO HERE WITH THIS." Which is what I hear basically from Max in these videos. It's good to know they understand what tone and such has to do with mood, and amazing how they can adopt that with their own natural instincts

Max is amazing! Poor guy,.. he was trying so hard to explain why he didn't care to go to the vet. In his mind he had his reasons and was trying to make Dan, (Dad) understand. Dan, wondering does he continue to be vocal while in the carrier and on his way to the vet. He's just amazing. One can see why he's your everything. No one would care for him like you. Yes! Dan must be so stressed out, and I really admire how he doesn't let Max see it. (Which would, in turn, make Max even more stressed out.) Dan keeping his voice low and steady, his little jokes ("your cell phone so you can call 911") - I'm sure that not only keeps Max as calm as possible in this situation, but helps calm down Dan himself. Does that make sense? Not giving in to the nervousness. Something to keep in mind for Calista's next vet visit!

@@emilyinoregon6967 hii, Emily! Good morning from Flanders! I agree : Dan does all he can to keep the stress level as low as possible... for Max and in fact at the same time for himself, too. Animals pick up changes in moods really easy. They have a special sense for that. And it's not easy to cover that up! Our cats were outdoor cats. So, I asked the vet to come as early as possible and I kept the cats inside in the morning, when they came in to have breakfast. That way, they didn't have to wait too long. But of course, they sensed there was something different, when they were kept in. Moesje, the mother cat, usually started wining, quietly, pacing around. Sfinks just wanted to stay underneath the kitchen table. I sat there with them, on a chair, talking to them, hoping to comfort them. It was always such a relief when it was done...!

Then she runs and hides. Next time, I'll try just laughing and saying, "You're a funny kitty," kind of like Dan does in this video. Maybe that will help! 😊💚
