Thank you Jonny. Your explanation of rootless chords is excellent, especially the description of the difference between the "A" type and "B" type chord configuration. Great work. You've made these concepts so easy to understand.

See how this vid has much lesser views than the beginner one, but this is where things get interesting, many people just missed this

Wow! I mean I've always played stuff from the "root" and wondered how nice it would sound withouth the "dum" base root and admired the guys that can have these rootless cords with closed fingering. Now it's just a question of training these out a bit more so that they come naturally. I've always knew about 6,9,13 etc, but now it really hit me better. Thanks maestro!

Thanks for this. I have got a grade 5 exam next month but it's always fun to learn new styles along side that.

One thing I've always wondered about rootless chord voicing. If you're playing solo piano (no bass player), aren't rootless voicings effectively substitute chords?

I loved the first 5 lessons of the challenge and would like to buy only the next 5 lessons, is it possible without the subscription plan that honestly I don’t like very much? It would be great, thanks

Your tutorials are wonderful however not for me,I am sadly unable to stretch further than an octave as I have deformed fingers due to arthritis. It's all very frustrating!!

Not to worry, this is where the rootless voicings 'got' you. They usually only span a 6th or sometimes a minor 7th :-)

I can’t stretch more than an octave either, but I’ve never found it to be a problem. I just find the same note that I can’t reach within the octave, or get the other hand to play it. Good luck and happy practicing!

I analyzed a few of your lessons. You can see that you do not have pedagogical education, you do not know the pedagogy of teaching. Learning harmony in music is as difficult and complicated as learning math. It must be continued gradually from scratch with specific exercises and necessarily specific pieces known to the student with a full analysis of why this chord and not another. Teaching the scales and chords themselves does nothing if you do not show them on the example of specific pieces, you talk too much, you waste time, you will not teach anyone to play with words. you are a very good pianist but not a teacher.
