Wow, I am sat up until really late at night watching your videos, it is absolutely fascinating and as a beginner I am astounded at the progress I am making, I can’t believe that I am playing music that actually sounds like Jazz and Blues. I work on a Cruise ship and I used to go and watch the Jazz trio every night, the pianist played some really cool stuff and I was mesmerised. I am not anywhere near the same level but I am loving the sound I am getting . Thank you Jonny, I am 58 and finally at my time of life I can play and sing, you are an absolute inspiration, thank you again all the way from Cornwall in the UK

I just discovered you today Jonny! I’ve been watching for hours! I played up to 4 hours a day my whole life, til I was 50. Then had to put my piano in storage for 3 months, which turned into 10 years! I now have it back again, but we’ve gone from being best friends to strangers. - It’s very loud and the neighbours are close, where I live now. One is a shift worker. I wish my piano had a volume knob! But I plan to follow your lessons, and in time I will get my confidence back again. I play by ear, so I can pick up any instrument or melody. I just have no technique any more. But that will change in time… Thankyou so much for posting these lessons.

Every single thing about this lesson reminds me of “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue”…the chords, the progression, the slides, the turns…everything. I think I’ll take what I learned here and practice some Crystal Gayle now. Folks like when I play that song when I’m entertaining at senior facilities. Thanks Jonny. You’re awesome!

Try it for one year, and I'm sure you will agree. It is early June 2022, and presently Jonny has a special on. I only wish that he was my teacher in the 60s. I know he wasn't born yet!

Another piano player here! You are a great instructor, Jonny! Indeed the best here! Everything you do is on point and easy to understand. Players of all levels benefit from such on-point teachings. Most of the so-called teachers here on YT fail when it comes to bringing things together. Which then turns out not to be helpful at all. May I ask for something that I consider important? Besides your great teachings, Jonny, can you please tell about proper hand (wrist) and finger movements? I made the experience that lots of players who didn't attend a music school suffer from tendonitis after a short period of time and they quit, without haven't started properly. I think it is also important to tell beginners of the amount of time they should spend on practicing (split practicing). Thank you and greetings from Austria/ Europe!

Very nice tutorial. I will practice it very soon. I did not know this scale and it sounds great even for Pop or Rock as You said. By the way, as far I remember, I think this scale is "more" the Gospel than the Blues scale which I thnik has 9 notes such as 1,2,b3,3,4,b5,5,6,b7. But maybe I'm wrong. Anyway thank You very much for this video Jonny.

Jonny, why in the turnaround in C is the A7 not minor? I see in the "Amazing Turnaround" lesson that you start with CMaj7 A7 Dmin G7 and then use alternatives of C6 and D7, but isn't A7 an alternative too? What am I missing? Is it just convention? I'm only a recent subscriber so still lots to learn, but that was confusing.
@SeanTheDiscoNinja
@SeanTheDiscoNinja 2 жыл бұрын
In jazz, we use secondary dominants all the time. You can cycle around the circle of fifths just using the V7 chord of the chord you are moving to. For example, a very extended turnaround to C could go ‘F#7, B7, E7, A7, D7(or minor 7), G7, C. You could also make it a series of 2-5 chords, minor - dominant, minor - dominant etc. Basically, we contextualise the preceding chord by the one that follows, so you don’t have to play diatonically in C major so long as your resolutions make sense contextually.
