Pattie this was wonderful. I remember Kensington market so well, loved visiting all the lovely stalls.To think Roger and Freddie were there too, Happy joyous days :)

I loved the Market too and remember Roger and Freddie there! And Mary too...when I stumbled into their little shop they'd been celebrating the news their first album was finally all ready to be released, after a couple of years of hard work, obstacles and difficulties... they were on a high about it, so excited! Had a lovely chat with mostly Roger (he was the most talkative) and later, as I was leaving the market, with dear (gorgeous) Freddie, who was bemoaning the 'mountain of bills' he had to pay, which meant he was still having to work full time for another stallholder there (sometimes even coming in on a Sunday, when required, for stocktaking) as well as at his and Roger's stall. I even got to read most of the original manuscript of his art school thesis, that he was trying to sell for a bit of extra money; it was really a fascinating read! (I wanted so much to meet the author, one Farukh Bulsara, not realising he was the quiet, dark haired guy sitting on the floor in front of me!) I also saw Freddie's original Queen Crest artwork, pinned up on the wall, that he'd had to scale up, twice, by hand, for putting onto the bass drum. I tried to buy it, but they wouldn't let me! They were very jokey and funny. Roger doesn't appear to have changed a bit in personality from those days. He was a cheeky young man then, as now, in the most charming way possible. They were all absolutely convinced their band was about to hit the big-time, with the release of their album. Well, it may have taken them a few more years, but I'm thrilled for them they made it in the end! Hearing Roger in conversation with Pattie brought it all back... :-)

Roger is so funny ! I’d like to be able to explain to him about running. I’ve run for years and it is horrible but it’s more about the whole package as in for the hour of running is horrible tho for the next day or two you feel happy and confident. Most people think running is flat out but you can vary it. I must say I do try and be happy and smiley when I see other people out and about when I’m out running. I liked the fact that he was interested in the Panama Canal and remembered specifications from the build and also was in awe of the people that built it. We are lucky to have him, John, Bri and have had Freddie 😍😍😍😍

What a delightful chat with Roger Taylor I do love listening to him talk and that was a lovely chat I enjoyed it enormously. I was in London in 1970 onwards for a time and lived just off the Fulham Road, although I too was broke just visiting some of those places like the Kings Road and Fulham Road and all the markets was such fun. Your chat brought it all back to me thank you. It was an exciting place to be even for us ordinary folk xxx

Wonderful informal interview. It does always surprise me though how, (even Roger here,) people say Live Aid reignited their career when they'd had huge success the previous year with The Works album, singles and tour. I know he has previously said it was more a shot in the arm because the fact is they were in fact totally over the slight commercial blip, (by Queen's High standards of platinum sellers,) of Hot Space and enjoyed their 2 biggest singles of the decade with Radio Gaga and I Want To Break Free....They'd sold out multiple arena and some stadium dates across the globe... I mean it's trivial I know but it is one of the most frequently pedalled myths that Queen were on the wane in 85...As was the myth they'd not played together for ages. I mean they were on fire because they'd toured the world, headlined Rock in Rio etc not just because they rehearsed thoroughly...Anyway, love RT's solo work. All his albums deserved major exposure and never got it. He's one of the most prolific and finest pop rock songwriters of the last 50 years and I include all 9 of his solo albums as including some stunning work. That's quite enough of me! Over n Out!

Live Aid was huge, but I definitely reject the idea that it was Queen's explosion. They were 12 years on at that point and quite well, massively, and enduringly on fire.
@carlstevenwilletts
@carlstevenwilletts Жыл бұрын
I agree with you Brandi, but remember the situation at the time. There was no Internet and if I remember correctly, the only Queen concert on video was Live in Rio. Queen fans the world over had known for many years that Queen were the best live act, but few others would have known. I personally don't think Live Aid was Queen's best ever live performance. What was amazing was how the band managed to captivate the audience when most of them were not Queen fans. Live Aid showed the world what they had been missing.
