the most beautiful things about Swiatek's career arch is that she literally had to work her way up. not ONE tournament ever gave her a wildcard when she was still ranked outside the Top 100 but was already among up-and-coming teens. reached her first tour-level final in Lugano 2019, lost that and then stunned Halep and the rest of the world in RG 2020. she is obviously in a fine place, just sad that she can no longer compete with Barty.

Congratulations Iga Swiatek. Go for Sunshine Double. Iga Swiatek played excellent. Iga Swiatek never gave up. She worked hard for this win. She kept on trying to break Cori Gauff's serves and eventually she broke Cori Gauff's serve on 7 game with 7th attempt in total. She had chances to go in the lead with a break earlier too, but Gauff prevented that from happening. Cori Gauff gave her all, but she wasn't able to win this match. Iga Swiatek is on fire. She seems unbeatable right now. She was able to rise her level on key moments. Iga Swiatek played like true world #1 and like a true champion. Against Iga Swiatek's monstrous willpower and fighting spirit there was nothing that Gauff could do other than losing badly. Iga Swiatek is at the moment world best tennis player. Think so? Let's see: Ash Barty - No drama (you allready mentioned), maybe in a positive way Naomi Osaka - well OK ... there is enough drama Simona Halep - not really maybe 20% Caroline Wozniacki - 60% drama Garbine Muguruza - could be worse ... maybe 30% Karoline Pliskova - 60% Angelique Kerber - 40% (for Germans - in foreign countries she is more known as a fighter) Serena Williams - yep - that's drama! Wiktoria Asarenka - 30% (raised up lately but not during her No. 1 days) Marija Scharapova - 90% drama (but that's her ...) Kim Clijsters - not really (maybe 10%) Dinara Safina - yes, OK ... 50% Jelena Jankovic - around 60-70% Ana Ivanovic - -maybe 30% during her No. 1 days ... Justine Henin - no drama Point is: The drama-level in general increased but it does not really count for the No. 1s ... (except for the big drama queen Serena Williams). Maybe - as we have more cameras nowadays we feel there is more drama around. Truth is: As Tennis player you HAVE to be a little bit crazy or mad ;) Even Steffi Graf was mad from time to time (but not in front of the camera I think) and if you have a look at all the other No. 1 around her (Martina Navratilova, Monica Seles, Martina Hingis) you can clearly see: Drama was there in every period :)

Pliskova was mostly cool, except for 1 incident when she smashed the chair umpire's chair. When I watch highlights of Swiatek wins, especially first time seeing her when she won the French Open, she looks phenomenal. But whenever I watch her live, which was the first 2/3 of the first set, yesterday, it looked like it could go either way. She was struggling a bit. Course. I go to sleep. And wake up and she wins the first and then the second. What I enjoy most about watching her live is how she just 'tap' bounces the ball with her racket to the ball boy behind her, without looking. I know they all do that, but it's the first time I realized the confidence these players have, being 'literally' on a tennis court.

Once a fatigued Iga awoke during the last game of the first set - she obliterated the pusher. That was an old fashioned shellacking far more impressive than most bagel sets you'll see. How do you see that her game is getting better? IMO her forehand is just as weak as it's ever been. She hit nearly 30 UE's on that side in today's match. Her backhand and movement have been stellar since she broke through but she still can't finish points on forehand.
@skelva1002 жыл бұрын
@@tylerpedersen9836 I still think she's getting better; she's definitely playing longer points, which means some measure of improvement. I certainly don't think that she's ready to be a big tournament champ yet. She's learning ...

I love the way Iga wins these matches. Ladies play, play, and then suddenly, no one knows when, Iga has a break, then another. And she seems to be playing on an equal footing with them all the time. However, the most important thing in all of this is that Iga scores points in key, most important moments. This is her advantage. PS. And I'm still in love with her returns❤ #JAZDA 🔥

Sylwia Konieczna And I with her exemplary follow throughs: right from that in her service action to those which unleashes those heavy groundstrokes for the unfortunate ladies on the other side of the net to deal with. Technically superb, is Iga. 👍 Beginners and those looking to improve would do well to watch Iga doing it her way. 🤔

I, totally believe that Coco should have been given a new coach by now so that she can reach closer to her full potential. Her game has dropped since the initial stages. Daddy, I believe it is time to let go and let another coach take charge. Great talent is being held back. The passion she had is not being shown in her game. I know that she is young but she needs to start improving from now.

It's ridiculously boundless how Iga is playing in every single match, she looks with much confidence and power in her gameplay, making big differences with opponents when she breaks their serves and starts to hit the ball more aggressive than them.

Tough draw for Coco. She’ll learn from this. She’s still very young. Swiatek is probably the strongest player on the WTA at the moment.

Considering the quality of opponent (Gauff) and still be able to dominate, she is a legit World No. 1. When she mastered the redirection of balls, she became more dangerous.

In Dec last year in one of my comments I beg Iga to change coach. Piotr was great but he needed to learn what to focus on when top is close. Tomasz had been there before with Aga Radwanska. Iga did it and now she will likely win all clay Tournaments she participates (yes, that would be awesome and RG title should return to "mommy"). The real question is, can she also win Wimbledon this year? If she does, she will be the legend at age 21y and I bet she will outclass Serena in long run (not that I expected any woman to ever be even close to Serena but now we have woman with brains - she loves math - and all physical attributes to rule for a very long time). Jazda 1GA!

Well done Iga. I has thought Gauff might posed some challenge, but looking at the highlights, it was only for first 20 mins. Your game is definitely maturing; you stayed patient when opponents were on a roll, but seize the first opportunity to pile up pressure once their levels drop 👍 Hope you get some well deserved rest. Stay focus & sunshine double is definitely within your reach 💪
