I watched this game (only cause I put money it) and Pegula played EXTREMELY bad. Coco Guaff did NOT have a good performance by any means but Pegula was even worse. Like they said, ever since the US open Pegula has been terrible. If Pegula played half decent, this would have been a close game. Now if Coco Guaff doesn’t play better next game, she’ll lose

There were two instances when Jess hit a really good shot and started to move into the court and Coco’s forehand pushed her back behind the baseline. This wouldn’t have happened a few months ago. Being able to push opponents back with a decent forehand allows her to set up a scolding backhand. Great improvements from Coco !

Hope these improvemenrs are longterm, that is what she needs. Many said she improved after she took Brad as a coach. But those improvements didn't last. Coaches these days need to keep finding ways to help their players have the edge. As soon as you lose that edge, the top players will beat each other.

I have to laugh at the modern tennis player. At 02:56 it never entered Pegula's head that she needs to follow up to the net while her opponent is running the other way to the baseline. The decision making of the modern baseline player is ludicrous. No initiative whatsoever there.

It has both puzzled and annoyed me that we on TV/video always first see the player who won the point. This happens almost 100% of the time when tennis matches are broadcast. On one hand, it might seem logical. But on the other hand, it's often more interesting to watch the player who lost the point, because so much frustration can be expressed. And it would at least be nice to have a bit of variation so it’s not always the same.

i'm just wondering how the tour is constantly increasing the prize money when the stadiums are consistently more towards empty than full.. is it sponsors only that are carrying these larger tour events? why not take the increase to the slams and trickle that down towards futures and challengers so those players can make enough to not be in so much debt as they build their games and career up?
