I do a lot of baking and have always found this to be very annoying. You basically have to mix a bit of liquid into the cocoa powder and continually add more till it's all mixed. Mixing it in with other dry ingredients helps too, depending on what you're making.

Pour in a 3rd of the milk first, add the powder in and have an easier time to start mixing it without the powder poofing away as it's sitting close o the top of the glass (then add the remaining of the milk and be done with it). Or use a shaker container.

I'm sure that's the case, but there are probably also some people out there who cook a lot, but don't bake sweets. I unfortunately don't fall into that category and I use cocoa powder almost every day (I make single serving portions or I'll eat a week's worth of sweets in one sitting... my weakness is chocolate ice cream, I make a half a bowl of it every morning so I can have it for a snack in the afternoon, at least it's made with honey so it's healthier than store bought... but still, I need to cut back)

I've experienced this when I was younger when clumps of cocoa powder float if I drop it in cold water or milk so that not all of the powder gets dissolved when I stir it. I just assumed it was the powder on the surface clumping together before the water gets deep enough in the pile to soak the rest. I had to rub it along the mug so I can crush them to dissolve properly.

Am I right in assuming that the powder was hydrophobic so the only thing making it seem wet was the surface tension that created a bubble around it until it got popped? In the vacuum chamber, it got wet because the air disappeared from the powder and so the now empty space inside the powder was filled with water because of nothing holding back the water pressure, essentially now making it hydrophilic in that environment

i discovered it, when i tried to do hot chocolate with cold milk, but the cocoa dissolves in cold milk very badly, instead it makes these little cocoa bubbles, and when you break it, the dry cocoa comes out of it.

Which is why you mix the cocoa powder with cream and sugar to make a paste first, then put that paste in the hot milk to make hot chocolate. I came up with that trick at 10 years old, after my hot chocolate ALWAYS had little annoying blobs of cocoa powder that didn't get wet. It's still how I make hot cocoa.

HEY!! Can you make an experiment in which- In a large vacuum chamber there are three positive charges(each has enough charge for experiment) placed in it. Let say charge A, B and C. Charge A acts as a transmitter as it moves a little to give some signal(different electric force) for five seconds .Charge B is palced 1 meter far from A and is for checking the time signal just like C. Charge C is placed 40 - 50 meter far from charge A , it also acts as receiver of signal like C. There are precise clocks fit with B and C to check the time interval of signal Questions- Does the time interval of signal for C is smaller than B? Did the signal reached the B before C? Did the B get the end of signal before C? Answer should be based on what is seen (not calculated or thought) If you can't do experiment like this Then acn you answer if any similar event has happended and it can answer the questions.

I discovered this when trying to make Cocoa (Hot Chocolate) with not hot enough water when I was kid. Usually when I wanted to make Cocoa, but just wanted to drink it asap, lol. There was always globs of undissolved cocoa in it.

2:00 Wrong!! You said it forms a water bubble around itself to protect it from air, while quite the opposite happens...

As a kid we used to put sugar on top of yoghurt and stick our fingers in. Your fingers remain dry when you pull them out. Not the same effect, but still interesting.

I wonder if it's possible to un-wet the cocoa out without resorting to dehydration? A bubble stone and air source, perhaps? Electrolysis of some of the water? There might be a water purification method embedded in this de-wetting concept.

Hey Action Lab, just a comment but I don’t think that the cocoa powder popped up from the fat free milk due to it being hydrophobic alone. If that were the case then it should have popped up when you dipped in water as well. Any thoughts on this?
