When making COCONUT MILK KEFIR does it matter which type of grains you use? (Milk Grains vs. Water Grains) Because I heard Milk grains needs to be revitalized in milk/dairy every 3 batches so it doesn’t die, but I don’t think water grains have that issue.
@GourmetVegetarianKitchen4 жыл бұрын
You have to use milk kefir grains to make coconut kefir. Yes, you have to feed the grains with dairy milk after 3-4 cycles. Otherwise, it will die. With water kefir grains, you only feed sugar to it and it will keep growing!
@LaneyEye1014 жыл бұрын
thank you for a quick and easy video! very easy to grasp and it looks absolutly delicious 😋
@JaneThatcher894 жыл бұрын
Hello there, first I want to say thank you for such a beautiful & delightful presentation along with the straightforward lesson! May I ask, why does coconut milk kefir not need a second fermenting stage, like dairy milk does? Also, do your grains feed only on coconut milk every time? I heard the grains need to feed on dairy sugar (lactose) to stay alive. Trying to learn and understand the process! Thanks so much!
@GourmetVegetarianKitchen4 жыл бұрын
You're very welcome. The second fermentation is to allow it to develop more flavor, but you don't need to. The grains I use for this is milk kefir grains, and I need to put it back to recover in dairy milk after 3 batches of using coconut milk--other wise they will die. So this coconut kefir is not 100% vegan.

@@Butterflyneverlands Hi there. I am right as of now trying to make soy milk kefir, after learning that I can not tolerate the casein hormone, in any dairy at all🥺 So I washed my kefir grains, in some of the water ,you would use when you Iron your shirts,it contains no clorine,so it is best to use, I think, for cleaning the kefir grains, before using them in any non dairy milk, at least, I am doing it this way now, I will see if it is possible, so I dont get any dairy at all 😀👍! Best wishes from 🇩🇰

Thank you - so to keep your grains healthy, do you store them in dairy milk between fermenting in plant milks? I’m so excited to make kefir, but I’m plant based so I’m doing coconut milk. I’ve heard not to rinse the grains in water, as it is like stripping their protective “clothing” off and rinses away prized bacteria. How important is a plastic strainer vs. a metal?
@Simplicity-pd2hp4 ай бұрын
Do you use the milk base kefir grains or the water base ones? And why does it have to be a plastic strainer? Does the metal one interfere with the bacteria?

can you explain more about putting the kefir grain back into diary milk. So after making two batches you put the kefir grains into diary milk for two days?
@GourmetVegetarianKitchen5 жыл бұрын
Yes you rejuvinate the grains by putting them into dairy milk for two cycles (usually 24 hrs/cycle) as the kefir grains eat the lactose in dairy milk. There may be more helpful info for you in my blog post on this too: gourmetvegetariankitchen.com/2018/03/26/coconut-milk-kefir-best-probiotic-drink/
