@MonicaBailey why would a fisherman want another occupation? Fish are a resource that keeps on renewing itsself year after year. Unlike some other occupations eg the oil industry, once we have sucked the last drop out of the ground there wont be any more. The environmentalist's would have us believe the seas are barren of fish, maybe some sea are, but as the saying go's.... there are always plenty more fish in the sea.

It's not cruel. It's a clean way to fish in most cases. What's cruel is the "sport" fishermen who practice catch-and-release, which is basically torture of a fish for fun. The mortality rate among fish caught for "sport" and thrown back exhausted is huge. If you're not catching them to eat, don't catch them. They're not there for your entertainment.

This is such a cool view. I've always wanted to see the fish we catch climbing on the line but it's hard to get a camera down 200+ fathoms (1200 ft) . . . Check out my black cod long lining for a surface very of the action.

Longline fishing is legal in most countries.

well said. I have nothing against sustainable fishing. I do wish there was an truly independent watch dog to look at the science and present the facts as best known before legislating. Divers & fisherman are at odds all the time witch means one cant take sides without being biased. Food for thought

Might be wrong thought you could not fish on spawning zone. Would have thought it was wrong as this is where new fish are created for us all to enjoy.

@prockdahouse it is mate, so true.I go out on charter boats once or twice a year and fill my freezer with enough to make some decent family meals, take whats realistically needed and return the rest, but theres loads out there who will take and kill anything that lives underwater, its very worrying.
Iceland has practiced sustainable fisheries for many years. So Icelanders are not destroying the fish stocks in the sea.

Thanks for the vid. I am surprised by the small amount of hookups; are you using offset circle hooks?

Who manufactured the hooks? So I know which ones to avoid! Not very effective Excellent video though

Unfortunately Icelanders only constitute a tiny fraction of a percentage of the earth's population, and the countries that do overfish, do so in international waters throughout the world. It is undeniable that fish populations globally are in decline and without drastic and global restrictions we will soon face a crisis.

Over fishing by commercial fishermen and their plain out ignorance in attitude will mean many fish species will become extinct. Take Atlantic Cod, facing extinction, the government rather than freezing fishing only keeps reducing quota, yet fishermen still knowing inevitably the cod will become extinct, only cry and complain they cannot catch more. Too many operators, and fish sold too cheaply, if you cannot afford to buy fish, catch your own, or eat your localised food sources, save the fish.
@MrBarkspud11 жыл бұрын
There is no way they can destroy a fishery. You can't catch them all you may knock there numbers down but thats it. Shut down the fishery and in time they will come back. Man do some research and learn somthing. The ammount of atlantic cod being farmed is crazy and the buisness is growing. Ive worked with cod fish raisng them and can tell there are alot of folks flapping gums about thjngs they know nothing about. Just because you read it on the internet doesn't make it true...wake up
