Skippers avoid seamounts and and rocky boulders and other such substrates which things attach to at all costs, if they went over these features they would not only destroy the feature but also their gear causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

What the animation doesn't show is the incredible destruction inflicted by bottom trawl gear like this. If the seafloor was just a mud flat and sand as this animation wants us to believe, it wouldn't be such a big deal, but unfortunately, it doesn't look like that in most places. Instead, bottom trawling gear scrapes over deepsea corals, seamounts and rocky boulders, destroying entire ecosystems that took thousands of years to grow to rubble. All for a filet of seafood.
