Well, I know this is tongue in cheek, but people would be surprised to find that some deaf children aren’t identified sometimes until middle school. Languishing for years in an FSC class misidentified as non-verbal, and cognitively challenged. I’ve seen it happen. By then they’ve missed out on so much! Newborn hearing screening can help prevent this scenario.

Maybe the screenings are more for hearing parents then that wouldn't realize their child was deaf until it was too late to give them a good start with ASL. Thanks for pointing out that they tests do make a difference

@@XFireRoseX Yes, that's exactly who it's for. Deaf kids of hearing parents. Otherwise they will just be speaking to them and the baby will go months or years without anyone using a language with them they can perceive.
