This is the first time I get to see the new Code_Aster interface, and I like it a lot! Thanks for the video, Cyprien Rusu, very nicely explained.

Although this Tutorial is quite old the basics still work and I found it really good as an introduction into 2D shell modelling in Code_Aster. Many thanks for your efforts Cyprien, much appreciated!

Thank you! I have watched multiple of your videos as I am starting to learn the Code Aster + Salome. I have to say that sometimes the interface is quite confusing - I honestly don't think I would have figured out how to display these stresses if you hadn't explained it here.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean! That’s not a software supposed to be intuitive... (it’s free after all...). That’s also why I am making those videos!

Nice to see some code_aster. Just one thing, what you called the flange is the web. Top and bottom are the flanges.

Thanks Cyprien very nice intro to salome-meca. You could have fixed all of the end nodes but showed how to do node couplings/constraint equations. Nice tips. Don't know if you have already done it but could have done the cylindrical shell test case forma00a(U1.05.00) it has a pdf file explaining the code-aster commands but not creation of the mesh.

Thanks for your efforts, I'm learning a lot from your tutorials. The stress distribution on surface was possible in the quarter plate analysis tutorial. Why couldn't it be done in this model? I've tried to plot the stress results on the surface by replicating the quarter plate tutorial on this model, but I couldn't manage to do that.

To be honest, It is still not very clear the orientation part (27:16). Few question that are not clear to me: 0) How to choose the write orientation? Do I need to refer to the normal direction of the shell? 1) How to define orientation when I have the shell along a inclined plane? 2) How to define orientation when the shell is not on a plane but along a curve surface (think for example a pressure velles with a 2D mesh that rappresent the sheet metal cilinder and the two spherical ends)? 3) How to define orientation when my strucuture is built by different shell oriented on differente planes (I hope that I don't need to define orientation for each single piece of 2D shell...)? By the way, thank you Cyprien for your helpful OpenSource software tutorials!

Hello and thank you for your very useful tutorials. I would like to go further in this tutorial : using following pressure. After some research, it should be possible using STAT_NON_LINE plus SUIV in EXCIT for loads. But I don't succeed to do it. Do you have any tips or things to do it?
@oddvarengedal98805 жыл бұрын
thank you very much for this great tutorial. At 4.48 you make partition to ensure continuity of mesh. Would it work to create one sketch and extrude it? What you call flange, is actually the web. your top and bottom is the flanges( but thats just nitpicking).

@@Feaforall i found this function with the SALOME 9. There is now the possibility to visualize node or elements in which something is defined, as forces, constranints and so on... This can be done in the window "information" on the left side of the interface. May i ask you one more question?! it seems that stresses are processed considering the local coordinate system for shell elements. Is that true? If it is true, is there any possibilities to change the reference system in order to use the global one? i'm getting crazy with that! :(

thanks for the video, only one question...why did you use the command "partition" and not "compound" for defining the beam's geometry?
@Feaforall5 жыл бұрын
Probably both would work, need to test. Partition is usually more versatile and works better from my experience

Does Code_Aster allow you to import certain files types from CAD software like Solidworks and Fusion 360?

Sure, just export in Step format and you can import it in Salome

Hey Cyprian, if you output results to .resu.med format, will you be able to use Ubuntu's text editor to open the results in text format? I have tried, text editor does not open a .resu.med, any advice or perhaps a different text editor? By the way, thank you for this video, it is very helpful. Kind regards.

Hey Cyprian, the video post processing with Paravis answered this question. Again, thank you for these tutorials, they are awesome!! Regards.

With a thickness of 5 specified, does that add 2.5 either side of the surface? Or 5 above/below the surface?
@Feaforall5 жыл бұрын
It ads 2.5 on both sides. If you want to add 5 above, you will have to add an offset value.

Is it possible to reorient the elements of the mesh of the lower tail of the beam so that the normals are pointing outwards?

@Feaforall Жыл бұрын

I do not have a "read mesh" option in my sub-menu in Aster Code. Anyone can help with an advice why ? Thank you
@Feaforall3 жыл бұрын
There is an option in the menu bar or the settings to activate the “business language”. If you don’t activate it, you will see the name of the commands instead. “Read mesh” is “LIRE_MAILLAGE” (same thing in French)

@@Feaforall Merci, yes it sorted the problem. I have some openGL problem in my code aster module though and cannot edit my model once I enter it. I managed to install the latest distribution on Ubuntu 21.04, but salome is running in software mode, perhaps that is the reason. I will try to reinstall the entire package.

I have looked you video the whole day. Just tell me how but not why. I can not learn well from your video. for example 15:40 ''for shell element you should use this''. but what is that? what is it for? thanks for the sharing, but it helps me not much.
@pedromoresco936 жыл бұрын
I think that what he shows us is how it's done, that's the point. Now, for the fundamentals you should read some documentation and tecnical books. Make this simulations work is a trycky stuff, the ambient is very complex and not very user friendly, and this you will not get from books. Hope I dind't offend you, and if you need some tips for teorical videos and books I can help you.
@oddvarengedal98805 жыл бұрын
You need to use the "Coque", and "epais" commands to tell Code_Aster the thickness of plate. Until this point there is just planes or shell with no thickness. This seperates the 2D shell element analysis from a 3D brick element or TET elements analysis.

Hi! Why do you used DKT?
@Feaforall4 жыл бұрын
DKT is the most basic type of plate element in aster. Check the doc for the details: www.code-aster.org/V2/doc/v13/en/man_r/r3/r3.07.03.pdf#page22
@mikhaelm4 жыл бұрын
@@Feaforall I used the DKT in a plate model and get the result more near to the theorical than DST. What I know is the DKT (Discrete kirchhoff Triangle, can be quad also) do not consideer displacement by shearing. But I don't know much more about. I already read the documentation.
