The main point of the episode is just to give a reason as to why Suzaku wont be shown constantly facing racism at school anymore. Realistically if we follow him at school without this happening it be nonstop and story would be slowed down from it. This just quickly gives us an excuse as to why we wont be seeing that anymore.

This is the thing about the slice of life/highschool episodes. They are such a transition from the serious nature of the main plot but they're so comically over the top they're fun to watch regardless.

I had a feeling they'd have fun with this one. :D I like to call this episode "Lelouch Hannah Montana-ing his way through revolution". I personally find it hilarious. It's UTTERLY ridiculous, and it has such a different tone. It's, as Rick said, very Ouran. But this is one of those times where I don't mind the high school shenanigans. It just makes me laugh, every time, and even more so with reactors watching. Lelouch 0, cat 1. Also it has the joke I love that Lelouch is just generally kind of physically unfit. He's a tactician, not a sportsman. And like Eric said, just imagining this happening to Batman or someone else... It wouldn't work in many other places. Besides, as the guys bring up - it does move the characters forward. We get to see how the prejudices influences the school, and how Suzaku gets more accepted, as well as some more insight into the friendship between Lelouch and Suzaku. So I really do enjoy this episode, even though I know a lot of people find it a waste of time. Fan-service aside, but that's just my constant criticism of CG, it gives me a good laugh as well as developing the characters and their relationships - which is perfectly fine by "filler" standards for me. Glad the crew got some laughs from it, which I think is the best outcome this ridiculous episode could have. Looking forward to next week.

It is infact the people and monarchy of Britain itself. After London fell to Napoleon's armies, and the Scottish forced the Queen at the time to abdicate from the throne, the Britannians fled from Europe, along with other surviving European aristocracies (thus the Germanic and French names as well as the British within the Empire) to the colonies in the New World. This became the new homeland as a capital was established on the East coast. This was very briefly mentioned in episode 3 in the background dialogue by the history teacher. The disgraced Britain reformed itself, remaining an absolute Monarchy (pretty much a dictatorship ran by the monarchy and aristocracy), and accepted Darwinism as it's main philosophy as it named itself the Holy Britannian Empire (as opposed to just Britannia as it was prior) and went on to aggressively expand across the rest of the Americas and into Austral-Aisa (excluding Australia which remains independent as pretty much the Switzerland of the world). After French victory over the Britannian, France went on to establish the democratic EU (Europia United) with Paris as the capital. Meanwhile, China does its own thing in Asia to form the communistic Chinese Federation.

I’m not a huge fan of the school episodes but watching you guys laughing at some of the Cat stuff changed my views of it. The school episodes seem to have a filler feel to it, but the ending typically has something really important in it. Eric was right about C.C name. I like how messed up Jeremiah’s punishments are. Either start over or cultivate an orange farm. The optical reflector rule is just like a Medusa thing only mirrors do work. Cornelia is the Viceroy of Area 11 and Euphemia is Sub-Viceroy or Area 11. Ultimately, Cornelia holds more power but Euphy is sorta like Vice President. Having a dislike for some of the soundtrack is definitely expected. I believe Shane mentioned how the one track sounds like it should be in a inspector movie. I agree. But you can not deny that “All Hail Britannia” is an awesome track. I like how the show gives us a sense of where technology is in this episode. To us, tanks are super powerful, nearly impossible to beat unless fighting another tank, but Cornelia says something along the lines of “old relics from a forgotten time” saying that tanks our outdated and don’t stand a chance against their mechs. O.R.A.N.G.E is a funny gag but not real. There is no project orange. I appreciate the Emperor’s speech at the end just cause it lets us know exactly what pride Britannia has and what it thinks of itself. “Inequality is not wrong, equality is.” I hate to admit it, but he did have some points there. Not everyone is created equal. Some people aren’t created with high metabolism, some aren’t as beautiful, some aren’t quicker. Red head is named Kallen (pronounced Colin). I’m excited for the next few episodes. I’m kinda nervous about they Code Geass toys tho. They may enter some spoiler territory

+Nickolas Butler The school episodes are the author's excuse to characterize, develope and link together the characters of CG. I never considered them filler. They're an important of the series. Without those episodes i would have little reason to care about any of the characters and consequently the plot.

Like the students looking for the cat itself is not really needed. It served for a reason for Lelouch to almost fall off the roof, Suzaku saves him, and is seen in a better light

Fun fact: Code Geass in Japan was originally sponsored by Pizza Hut and there were PH references dotted throughout the entire anime. The American version removed it because Pizza Hut America did not want to associate themselves with a terrorist figure in an anime which is Zero. This anime is old so terrorism was a big thing then.

Lelouch Lamperouge sound like a name they made up to make it sound somewhat French. _Le louche_ would be French for _the shady_ or _the dubious_ while _Lampe rouge_ means red lamp. The "filler" in this show is there to make you like the characters more. It makes them feel human. I'm not sure I'd like Lelouch as much if we only saw him as an opportunist rebel. Plus it helps swallow the pill of the more serious episodes.

Behold what is probably the weirdest episode in Code Geass where we talk about racism and introduce the main antagonist of the show with an allegory to the nazis, complete with an allegory salute just in case you didn't get what they were referencing. We also see social Darwinism, world building and a funeral. How do we set the tone for this episode? LET'S HAVE THEM CHASE A CAT!! What, but how would that fit in the plot? Let's make him grab the mask, then we chase him in this silly comedic highschool moment!! But what about the racial themes and conflicts? The cat-catching solves racism. I still like it though, its silly but in a good way and I feel the scenes with the Emperor to be really good. As to whether most people enjoy this episode, well to your surprise (or lack thereof) they really, really don't. This episode is considered infamous by many, many fans who consider it to be at odds with the themes and seriousness of the show. Most people view Code Geass as a complex and serious political drama, with some silly elements which they either enjoy or tolerate. This is a silly episode with some serious elements sprinkled in-between, so the exact opposite of what most fans like. Couple that with a SINGLE knightmare/mech scene in the whole episode and you have yourself an episode that most fans just wish they could skip. I'm almost 100% sure that it actually affected the show too. You see, CG holds a unique distinction with most anime since it didn't have any source material and was built as an anime first, with the manga coming after the series success. It was a very risky endeavor for everyone involved and many thought it would fail. It even had to take a sponsorship from Pizza Hut to have enough money to fund the show (Leading to the infamous PIzza Hut advertising in many episodes). This episode did not help matters, since the audience didn't like it even back then, and in fact the high school stuff is VERY limited for the rest of the series probably because of the response this one got. The 'cat chase' has become so infamous to the Gess's staff that the more recent 'recap films' cut the thing out almost entirely. So, no, it's not well liked.
