Another winner. Thanks, Max. That shipping time is really long, but probably a lot better than the pain of quick shipping on the wallet.

Great to see the JFMT & Eutectic flame spray making you a buck at long last. Was definitely worth the effort you put in to get the JFMt to where it is now & not a whole lot more left to do to get it how you want it. I’m guessing a DRO won’t be cheap because the X axis scale will need to be a mile long. 😳😳 As long as the paying jobs fund the upgrades your on a winner. 👍👍👍🇦🇺

So nice to watch process Max. Here in Washington state, US, many of the harvest machines for small grains, tillage and forestry require shaft refit to tolerance for operation. Besides the dimension as seal or bearing, recondition to wear as auger (flighting) are treated to flame spray with hard face to resist wear. This type as refit or recondition has caused a wide range of spray mixture. That as an advantage to job demands but create also, a high price to some as admixture. Surprisingly, soil type(s) are a key factor as abrasion where crop or tillage meet design. Some of the jobs I have observed naturally as hot work require particular care and pre heat to task. >"flame on, Max. M.

There are some very hard powders that can be sprayed . They all need pre heat , i just skipped that part in the filming . Cheers 👍

What I’ve always wondered about this process is how does this affect gear or spline teeth on the shaft if they’re hardened? I don’t think that question is violating your national secrets act, but if it is I understand.
@swanvalleymachineshop4 ай бұрын
It is a low temperature process , has no effect on the heat treatment of the adjacent areas that are sprayed . But you have to keep within specific temp ranges . 👍

Like you say Max no apologies necessary. One of my manufacturing departments had a flame spray process where we sprayed Ceramic powder on ceramic parts. in the beginning we used Oxy-Map gas and years down the road we converted over to Plasma Spray. The company we bought our powder and spray equipment also sold metal powder to TRW and Seal Power to coat piston rings. We also had a platinum process that used 99.9999% pure platinum. Over the course of 1 year, we spent more on the powder than the Platinum. Thanks as always for bringing us into your shop.

Max, if you had had coolant on the JFMT lathe, could you have used it on the flame-sprayed OD? Or is the built-up material too "porous"? Also, do you use your "normal" digital caliper to measure the hot surface to see how much more material you to add, or a caliper dedicated to your flame-spraying? This video is a definite thumbs-up!
@swanvalleymachineshop4 ай бұрын
Yes , i could use coolant when it is hooked but no real need for it . I use what ever callipers are close ! Usually the digital as they can be read quickly & they are not in contact long enough for the heat to have any effect . Cheers 👍

Nice feature on the JFMT to reverse the feed, I had to reach over to the headstock on the DSG, bit awkward. Talk about rush jobs, i had to make a propeller shaft coupling back in the mid nineties for the STS Leeuwin, she had to sail the next morning. Taxi arrived with an 8" billet of K 1035 at 5 PM. The old DSG worked hard, spigots on both ends of coupling and reamed coupling bolt holes. Got it too the shipyard at 11PM, still warm. She sailed the next morning.
