Code Red II Swell Hits Waikiki (July 16, 2022) 4K

By the evening of July 16, 2022, the July 13 Teahupoo Code Red ll swell was hitting Waikiki and you know it's big when the outer reefs of Queens and Canoes are breaking. We knew this day was going to be historical so after an exhausting day of filming Ala Moana Bowls we went to Waikiki's start point and finished shooting at Canoes outer reef. We hope this video will educate future generations of that time when Tahiti's Code Red II swell hit Hawaii. 2022 might be the greatest south shore season in my lifetime, what a year! Ok, now we can finally start to edit our July 17th footage. More to come, Aloha

This is pure awesomeness. One of the best memories I will take away when I am gone is surfing this very swell all afternoon into the evening, staying out there even after sunset and being one of the last guys in the water. Words can't describe the feeling of pure joy and the meaning of life when you are out there. I will go there again, at least one more time, hopefully, many more times.

I was in Oahu in September and saw that lady with the checkerboard surfboard starting at 4:47 pretty much every day I went out. She caught like every wave. I'm pretty new to surfing so I tried waiting for her to catch a wave, and then paddling to exactly where she started and try for the next one. It worked many times haha. Grateful to have shared the break with her!

This is great footage. I surfed this break (and other south shore spots) for forty years. It's great to see cunhas breaking , I only rode it once in the 80's. Wonderful video brought back years of memories.

This reminds me of when I was a kid. The waves were coming in this big, maybe a bit more from the left side and bigger, and I had a boogie board and fins. The waves were HUGE, for me at least, like 15 foot faces ( I think) that didn't break for like forever, and when they did the ones I caught were really tame monsters with no tubes. I was a novice, and the local kids kept grabbing on to me as I paddled my way out with my fins. They didn't have fins, and I was their ride - if they could keep ahold. Best experience of my life! Sun burn with 3rd degree blisters was my penalty though, but the whole bay being filled with monster waves was a dream I'll never forget!

Paipo boarding back in the day. Kalakaua was a 2 way street. The restaurant on the corner of Kapahulu and Kalakaua was a service station. And zoo admittance was free. Yes I’m old. 🌴😎🌈Aloha 🤙🏼

Looks like breaking all da way to Publics. I remember dropknee down one wave way out and catching the momentum down the face for another setup. Even my friend did that caught one good ride right up to da beach and called it a day 🤙🇵🇼

I surfed Waikiki one time in 1974 and remember that the paddle out to the outside break was like a mile or more. Like a 30min. paddle out!

I started surfing, at age, 20, in Waikiki in 1966. Queens, Canoes, etc. But the best surfing was the paddle from the Beach Center to Diamond Head, to surf that spot...No body there, yes a long paddle, but so beautiful a place...I'm sure this swell had some epic waves there...haven't seen any footage of the place, yet...

I was fortunate enough to surf Pop’s from the mid 2000’s through November 2013 until I retired and moved back to the Big Island. So lucky to get some epic BIG days that are forever imprinted on my mind.

Too Much! It's called Waikiki's Gold Coast and those building were built in the 1960's and 70's. Old Buildings but amazing ocean views if your apartment faces that direction.

Just got home from Kauai during this period of surf. It was so windy on Kauai, what drone are you flying? Doesn’t look like the wind was as strong in town.

Wind was stronger earlier but calmed down as it got later. We can't give away our secret weapon until after Winter but I can say that the Air2s, Phantom4, and mini 3 are amazing drones if you can get the color grading science down. Good luck

“Secret weapon”? I was just curious about the drone. No big deal. Any of the DJI Phantoms or new Mini 3 would’ve of worked of course in the wind in Kauai. More than anything I was just wondering if it was a mini se or 2. The color part is easy with a few adjustments and some after market filters.

No it's just years of experience and crashing older models of the drone. We don't get nearly as close as some of the other drone pilots you see on instagram do

Sorry, can't reveal that until after the Winter. All I can tell you is the Air2s, Phantom 4, and mini 3 are excellent drones! The key is learning how to color grade to get the most out of your footage though
