6 weeks into the term. 7 classes down. I've now repeatedly encountered what may be the most frustrating thing I've had to deal with in any school I've attended. It's the kind of problem that could be a dealbreaker for some people considering attending WGU.
Edit 5/24/2019:
I've gone back to look into several of the error reports I made to zybooks. To their credit, they have actually made corrections to some of the errors I reported to them. Others, including the one I showed in the video, are still there.

I think I see the confusion in the question about the 4 way cache. It's not clear from the question but from the response from the incorrect comment it seems they want to know the necessary size of the multiplexer. A 4 way 32 word cache would require a 8 to 1 multiplexer. Thus, the correct answer should be 8. So, I can understand why they would drag their feet on changing this answer. However, this highlights an even bigger problem with question clarification. Or the lack thereof in this situation. Good video and thanks a lot for putting this out there.

Every IT course I've taken with WGU so far has had little "moments" like these in the textbooks. I'm glad I went into my degree knowing most of what I would be learning in those IT courses already, because if I didn't, I would likely make myself look like a total idiot in front of future coworkers. The tradeoff of being able to blow through content as fast as you can is definitely worth it to me, though, like you said. I completed 10 courses in my last term, and I'm looking to get at least 8 done in my current one.

I've noticed some questions wrong like that before but nothing really major, but I just finished taking ITIL v4 and the test literally referenced materials that weren't in the book at all, I remembered some context from the questions and did a Ctrl + F on every page of the course material and it wasn't there.

I'm a bit ahead of you, but you're on a better pace than me. Nice work. Sloppy mistakes in Zybooks or otherwise poorly presented content is so demoralizing; easily the #1 impediment to my progress. I'm a bit quicker now to cross-check (or flat-out replace) WGU's content with outside material, especially when I get that feeling like "Wait, I've been here before...".

Yeah it's not so much flying through it as it is putting in a huge amount of time every week. 8-10/day is a weekly average. It's often 12-16 in a given day to make up for other days where it's more like 4-6.

Yeahh, I can see the frustration. I've encountered the same things in ASU, when they made their own mathematics online homework system. It would mark wrong correct statements, and then would display the correct answer, and it would be exactly what you've input previously. This is a very common problem in online homework/learning systems unfortunately.
@markgardner1241
@markgardner1241 4 жыл бұрын
I took a math course at a local university that had a similar annoying online test program. It would literally repeat exactly what you typed as the correct answer, yet it would claim you were incorrect. Luckily it was in person so the teacher would roll his eyes and correct it on the final grade. Online would be extremely frustrating though.

I think the answer for #2 is 8 and #4 is Mem[21]. Maybe the book was just confusing, and they didn't do a good job of explaining how it works. Their example of 4 and 4 was bad, because it makes you think that there's an association between the two numbers. And their example with variables, instead of n and n, they should have called them something like x and y, so you realize they're not the same number, but they can be.

This has been my experience at 3 different colleges... It. is. the. worst. It eats up so much time trying to sift through this online cookie cutter crap. Schools use these online companies to subsidize there tech departments because they don't have enough knowledgeable staff and its sucks. This age where the instructors are detached from the material is a serious motivation killer, it makes it very hard to get help, and has wasted too much time and money. I went back through the email confirmations they sent about reports I made in Computer Architecture a couple weeks ago and found that they have actually made most of the corrections I got confirmation emails about. (They stopped sending me confirmations emails after I submit about a dozen reports). There are still other mistakes I reported that need to be fixed. I've got a lot of thoughts on that textbook - it's just not very well written and the conversion to zybooks made it worse, when it could have made it a lot better. Incorrect and dis/mis-information about technologies is important obstacles to delay your future projects. I am sure you may have practical experience with that situation. You should be disgruntled with these deficiencies during your education. Disinformation is a great challenge during education. Yes, it’s poor-quality control on their part. In a traditional setting, the professors aren’t aware of what is in the books either. I spent 30minutes as well, I knew the book was wrong, zybooks had a few errors in their digital circuits courses (COMPE Major) and when I brought it to my professors attention, he was surprised as well. It doesn’t matter where you go to college, you’re always going to be alone. Also, whether you go to a community college or traditional college as I have. Anytime you used 3rd party software the Professor provided, they made sure to express in writing that you can figure it out by reaching out the to company :) Personally. I love zybooks, it is the best way I ever learned anything in a college setting. We all learn differently. Despite some unprofessional mistakes you come across their material. I think it it works great from technical majors. I need a lot of interactive materials, hands on learning. Traditional methods of teachings: slides, videos, reading a boring text book, just doesn’t work for me.

I just bailed out of WGU. The student support is great, I just wish they had had the same standard for academic quality. zyBooks and uCertify materials are so out of date as to make them useless. I sent my instructor a SQL code example and he trashed it. I told it was from uCertify and he back peddled. He blamed uCertify, uCertify blames WGU. the SQL course at the graduate level MSDA program was a complete joke. It below a beginner's level. It was the icing on the cake for me. I don't want to spend $4-8K for a few letters, I want to learn something. If you can cram a graduate degree into 6 months, I posit that you really aren't learning anything. You're just good at jumping through hoops, which is what the WGU experience really is.

Still worth it if you are just trying to get a bachelors in the fertile you are working in, along with the industry certs. There are plenty of ways to learn the correct information outside of a college program, but if you want to get ahead in your career then you still need a diploma. That’s where WGU is good, since it is easy to rush the diploma. Of course, it would be even better if the material was on point.

Sorry to hear that. I guess they've had a chance to improve over the last 6 years. I certainly can't speak to their business program at all. But I'm having a very different experience in their computer science program. I've got undergrad and graduate degrees from brick and mortar schools in fields unrelated to what I'm doing now, and this experience has been far superior to those. But I've always preferred learning by reading and studying on my own over being lectured to. Mostly because I hate doing something slowly if I could just as effectively do it faster. WGU lets me do it at my pace, at a cost that beats any other school I've been able to find. Everyone I've dealt with has been completely professional, knowledgeable and polite. Material is based on the current real world environment. Even the issue with Zybooks I mentioned in this video hasn't been that big a deal. They are making corrections to errors in their material, slowly but surely. And zybooks ended up being a smaller part of the degree program than what I expected when I made this video.

You can email me at **** if you have more questions! Welcome to WGU and I hope all works out well.

How many credits did you transfer when you started WGU?

37 - 8 of which were from two courses I did in January through Straighterline.com, just before starting WGU

@@codeBueno do you recommend Straighterline? How was that experience?
@codeBueno
@codeBueno 5 жыл бұрын
@@mdtaylor2274 If you can put the time in to get it done quickly, absolutely. You pay by the month, then pay for each course individually. No restriction on how quickly you go through it. You take the tests as soon as you're ready to take them. I did two courses in one month and had a discount for one of the courses, so it was definitely worth it for me. I don't remember exactly off-hand but I want to say it ended up costing me somewhere about $30-40 per credit unit. The credit transfers to a ton of schools - online and brick and mortar. That's obviously a way better cost per credit than you'll get at any brick and mortar school.

I don't find your errors to be errors your skipping over some details... example 32 one word blocks [32÷4=8]. I'm actually going to wgu for education and one strategy to help students is to mark up the problem as to not miss pertinent information
