For those that don't understand: This is an image-generating AI trained on footage of people playing Minecraft. It has no concept of anything about the game *except* what it looks like to play. The AI inputs the most recent X frames (X is small, probably two digits) as well as the player's input, then outputs the next game frame. Crucially, it has absolutely no internal game state. The world is not stored anywhere. Your inventory is not stored anywhere. Everything about the world has to be deduced solely by the images it inputs. This means that if you look away from something, then look back a few seconds later, it will probably be gone and replaced with who knows what else.

@@james-m-8285 Yeah, I’ve seen people proclaim that this is the future of game development when in reality, it doesn’t help with game development at all. Even if that tech progressed to the point where you could make a somewhat playable game with it, not only would it be less reliable than traditional code, but you’d actually need to develop the game normally to create enough training data to train the AI on, so it’s kinda pointless. It’s a *really* cool experiment, though, and I can’t wait for the context window to grow a little to see at which point is becomes playable.

It's like the AI understands you're not supposed to dig straight down, and is doing everything in its power to stop you from doing so...
@_B_E17 күн бұрын
It's kinda true, in a way! Since the dataset is trained on frames of minecraft gameplay, it sort of averages what each screen would look like across X number of instances. Generally when people dig down, they won't just dig a single block hole, so there isn't enough source material that the AI can train on to learn what that scenario looks like. It's less that it's trying to stop you, and more that it literally doesn't know what that looks like because it doesn't have data on how to present it.
@polygontower13 күн бұрын
@@_B_ETo me, that sounds all too theoretical and not based in reality whatsoever. The exact purpose of training is to allow it to handle situations outside the data set. Caving and digging straight down are not two completely disparate scenarios, at least not in the sense that one wouldn't be able to extrapolate how one would like from the other.
@AMentalFailure17 күн бұрын
The way everything changes when you turn around reminds me of a nightmare I had where I was at a family meeting and I walked up to a brick wall and suddenly everything went silent, and when I turned around all I could see was a dirt wall, I was trapped underground, and I got buried alive.
@C.C.S.miniatures16 күн бұрын
It might be struggling because no one digs straight down in Minecraft, so there is isn’t much training data for it.
@hastyscorpion15 күн бұрын
It has nothing to do with training data for a specific type of action. The whole thing doesn't work. This tool was never designed to do this thing. This is trying to tell you how cool it is that you can hammer in a nail with a Level. Yeah you "can" do it but it really sucks and it's probably going to break. And why the fuck didn't you just use a hammer.
@Whatismusic12315 күн бұрын
@@hastyscorpion you're replying to a joke comment, relax.
@james-m-828515 күн бұрын
@@hastyscorpion actually, he’s pretty much dead-on. The dataset likely contains very few gameplay captures of straight-downward digging dropping you into a cave, so when the player starts digging down, the model has little to no chance of generating frames of that happening, and instead lands on other frames that have similarly uniform color, like the sky or the inside of a structure.
@KennKuun15 күн бұрын
@@james-m-8285 another issue is that looking directly downward into a hole produces a similar image to staring at a wall with a one-block deep indent. And since the AI uses the current frame as the input to generate the next frame, it can't distinguish between the two situations, which is why CB goes from looking down to staring straight forward at a wall at 1:50.
