Its the incestuous data pool issue. As AI generated data gets put into the internet and the training uses that data, it causes more and more issues. Google translate once? Its fine. Google tramslate 700 times? Yeah thats not gonna be comprehensible.

It's been a while since I saw this, so it could be out of date, but in some tests GPT 4 is demonstrably worse than GPT 3.x, there's a theory that this is at least in part due to, effectively, AI incest since the internet is now flooded with GPT generated content being passed off as written by humans, that's subsequently being fed into the training data for the newer models
