Never quit. Keep going. Our facility started a paid coding school and I was fortunate to get in. I had billing/denials experience which helped but let me tell you that education and hands on coding experience is two different things. There was times when I wanted to quit bc it was so much information but in due time you will catch on. I can honestly say that I was comfortable in coding alone within 6 months. I’m a quick learner but coding this is a totally different animal regardless if you have credential or not

Happy for you ❤ I start a Program Monday at a College. I have a Associates from 2004 in HIM but due to Life and My Father being diagnosed and passing from Terminal Cancer it has changed so much I started over. My Wallet can't handle it but what's a girl to do. I already have 30 years in the Medical field in Respiratory Therapy so I must not give up . Good luck on another call. You got this!!! Take a Muscle Relaxer and go in with just your Mouth moving lol ..Kidding. Hugs.

So happy you had an interview! One thing you might want to do during your next interview is have something to hold on to. I've been through lots of interviews over the years, and I like to bring a small planner with me - something classic looking and not too big. It gives me something to hold on to and something to take notes with during the conversation. I also keep my list of questions for them in the planner. That way, at the end when the interviewer says, "Do you have any questions for me?" I have a few prepared ahead of time and don't just go blank. Did you ask if they're doing second interviews? Did you send a thank you letter or email for the opportunity to interview?
@codingwithkate37926 жыл бұрын
JennyMaine good idea! I usually bring my iPad where ai have my questions on there and my calendar but I’ll definitely think about what appropriate item I can hold during the interview!

Hi Kate, very excited for you. I speak with my hands too! I dont think that's a bad thing at all. Question what exactly you have to prove about data entry, speed? Or just how to maneuver a computer? Or the use of a special program?
@codingwithkate37926 жыл бұрын
Maria Moore the data entry test is solely to calculate your strokes per minute (your typing speed) and error rate (how many times you made an error in typing) and that was all it was! I think they calculated strokes per hour so I don’t remember that huge number but I made few errors so I was at 97% correct strokes! The actual stuff we had to type was “client ID number, client name, company name, company address, company phone number” and you did that over and over again for 2 minutes. Every time you completed one “client account information” it auto populated new client account information for you to type. Super easy and straight forward!

I have noticed in your videos you talk with your hands, but never thought of it as a negative 😊
@codingwithkate37926 жыл бұрын
Stacey Rives I also don’t think it’s a negative but the interviewer knows her coworkers that are involved in the interviewing process and she felt they’d be a bit overwhelmed by it so hopefully I can tone down those hand movements!

Gabe Ure hey I am not that far yet I am still learning medical terminology and the systems of the body. I actually hooked up with a coder in my area and she gave me her old coding books and practice sheets so I have been practicing coding with those. Good luck to you and your coding success. I am excited to get done school and start

Wow that’s a first to be told to tone down the hand gestures lol . I think it’s because you seem to be a very enthusiastic and friendly person you don’t realize you are doing it. 🙂 Congratulations on your interview. If you passed the test most likely you will get hired .

Kate, can you tell me, how much does the CPC exam go over HCPCS codes? Also, do you have a video that goes over HCPCS?
@codingwithkate37926 жыл бұрын
Steph Olsen I didn’t take the CPC exam (I took AHIMAs CCA exam) but from my limited knowledge, they do 10 questions per section so there would be 10 questions on HCPCS but I can ask around and let ya know more details!!

Hi Kate. I'm seeking a coder I position in the same city as you. For the bigger health care organizations, how are you finding coder I positions? What key words are you using? When I search "coder I" no search results are returned however I keep hearing that coder I positions are in demand. Thanks.
@codingwithkate37926 жыл бұрын
Donna LeClaire I look at the large healthcare facilities websites and search under the medical coding/billing sections, HIM Dept, etc. I also don’t get many hits when I search for “coder” or “coder 1” on monster.com, indeed.com, etc. it’s much easier to go right to the employers career page. I keep checking every couple of weeks until they post a position! Coders are in demand but most of these facilities want people with experience so it’s a struggle to find a place or a supervisor that wants new coders. Keep looking and applying!!!!
