In California medical power of attorney can become effective immediately. There is a box that you check off on the form to make it effective immediately

Check this out: this is from the California medical power of attorney form WHEN AGENT'S AUTHORITY BECOMES EFFECTIVE: My agent's authority becomes effective when my primary physician determines that I am unable to make my own health care decisions unless I mark the following box. If I mark this box , my agent's authority to make health care decisions for me takes effect immediately.

Hi Kate. DRGs groups represent combo meals. Its a way instead of paying everything fee for service, you determine what services patients get for these stays and puts a cost a patient is expected to get, so we don't have people ordering needless tests to rack up a hospital bill. If the final diagnosis justifies these expenses, the patient will have a higher cost of care. You shouldn't pay for extra cheese if you didn't ask for it..or 100 mcnuggets if you only ordered 10. .

Hi. Been a really long time since I watched your coding videos. I've since gotten my CCA, credit to you for the help your videos provided. In the six months I've had my certificate I was able to move on from my job in Patient Registration to working for an oncology clinic obtaining prior authorizations for chemotherapies and radiology services. It's a nudge in the right direction though it isn't hands-on, heads down coding. An HR director from this very clinic got me looking into medical coding and now I work there. I hope your path has moved you forward and I hope there are many more stories out there, like mine, where your videos helped others along their path to becoming a medical coder. Cheers.

Make sure your coding department and medical records are still through the same employer. Our hospital outsourced their billing/coding but not the medical records. So completely different employers.

Thank you, Kate, this was a gold video for me, two months ago I started working for a law firm as a Facility Specialist I am calling every day to obtain Medical records at different facilities but suffice it to say that I am very far away from being a specialist, previous to this job I didn't know that it was something called Medical Records, I believe I will be consuming all your videos to get a better idea of what the different type of records are and I guess I will learn a lot about all of the jargon used in this field. On my first day, I called a facility and I said Hey! My name is .... and I need to send a medical records request to your facility and I would like to have the fax number to send the request, then she asked ....... sure .. what kind of records? and I was like ......... listen!..... it is my first day in here so......... why don't you send me aaaaalllll the records?......

I desperately want to trauma registry. The only background I have is some A&P. Where do you recommend I start. I’ve been on the ATS website and they recommend getting a job and experience first before taking the Trauma Registry Course or the AIS course, but every job I have looked at once the credentials and coding. I’m so afraid of taking courses and then never getting a job 😢
