I'm not necessarily against that, but my fear is the fans don't give the angle a fair shot. Cody is very over right now. He came back to WWE and had those great matches with Seth. His injury was unfortunate and awful timing. A big part of the modern wrestling audience is quite fickle, and they haven't had the chance to get sick of him yet. In a years time, can you honestly say the fans aren't going to tire of Cody being the good guy like they did in AEW? It's an angle that could go either way. I think if WWE is at all serious about signing top talent in the years to come, especially picking up guys like MJF, Cody needs to win here. Shows they are serious about seeing things through.

Ango, my guy, you're still on this! There are a MULTITUDE of reasons as to why Cody NEEDS to win this match. He didn't come back to get jerked around or win the title at some mediocre premium live event. I saw someone point out that he has to win if WWE wants to ever sign anyone of value from AEW - which I also I agree with. Having said that, I have softened my stance a little bit in that the ONLY way you can have Cody lose this match and win later on is... if some huge surprise person debuts and costs him the match. (And he still gets the belt a little later.) Outside of that, there is absolutely no reason to keep the belt on Reigns... not for 1000 days or any other bogus reason.

He won the Rumble but lost to Seth Rollins (Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reign's match making it a Triple Threat match). Cody’s been saying finish the story. But I don’t think his story is fully told. He’s already doing something no other Rhodes did and headline wrestlemania. To me the bigger story with the blood line is who turns on Roman. I feel like it’s either Jey or the elders story for Solo. Pushes Solo into mega star status. Split the belts and let Roman keep that Universal. Because the WWE belt can cross platform. Do a tournament for that title. Cody is the underdog and make him fight more. They can take this much deeper on all levels. This is 1 of the best long term stories ever. It’s not near over yet in my opinion. I’d like more levels.
