This was really great smart booking by WWE. If you are about to move away from a super emotional story with Sami, you should try to replace it with equal level feud, which means it needs to include great promos, a great story, emotion, personal hatred. It has to feel just as real as the Sami feud. They did a good job starting to set it up here and if they continue it won't get overshadowed by the Sami storyline at Mania

Another thing to point out is how they isolated both Roman vs Sami and Roman vs Cody in the first week of their buildup. On Smackdown, Roman and Sami had a standalone segment without KO or Jey. On Raw, Paul and Cody had a standalone segment with Paul without Roman or Usos. Isolating, in this case, made people anticipate something. That's quite clever.

For years WWE built their shows are BIG part-time stars. Fans would complain about their favorites never getting a chance, and how booking changed week to week. Now you have two fan favorites finally getting consistent stories and look how views are back up and attendance is back.

Alway baffled me how backwards they booked in the last 10 years or so with old part timers, when every time they were on top or doing great numbers, they had (younger) full-time wrestlers on top that got booked well and long-term

I wasn’t in love with the reliance on part time stats of the past that was occurring. But I also understood it in a sense. If you look to when they brought the Rock in part time it made sense why they did it because it did a lot of big business for them. Each WM the Rock was on did over 1M PPV buys and the first match with Cena broke the record for the most PPV buys for a wrestling PPV ever. So in that sense I can see why they did it because it directly led to a giant increase in business for those specific shows from the prior years leading up to them. But a little of that can be fine here and there if you continue to focus and build on your future stats. But in recent years they lost their way with that and just overly depended on the past which isn’t the best move. Hopefully they continue as they are now and focus on building their future instead of depending on their past because eventuallt the hens come to roost if you don’t.

I think this was a pretty good move; Paul builds up the story with Cody, and, the storylines will converge in a few weeks, and, it won't feel secondary or ham fisted. I do love the line by Cody "I'm just trying to win a championship, but everyone wants to make it personal." (Paraphrasing) Good stuff all around.

Cody is the best long-form monologist in professional wrestling by a wide margin, and that is major value for an organization whose flagship show is three hours of weekly television content. The fact that he can back it up with in-ring performance only enhances his value.

He did it when punk walked out, when he turned that Chicago crowd onto lesnar vs taker, two weeks ago he did it when the crowd in Philly was gonna do nothing but chant ECW he turned around their attention to sami. In terms of the story about Paul and Dusty it’s always so fascinating to me how so many people of today got into the wrestling business. It’s so interesting to hear stories from Cornette, Prichard or Heyman and how they got into the business really young by doing various jobs for the companies and growing into roles over the years. It’s so interesting to consider that in a time where the industry was so protected that so many people got their start how they did and ended up spending their career involved.
