Well this doesn't change my opinion about Cody or Punk because quite frankly they had two different experiences. Cody was there and created the company from the ground up so of course he has more emotion and fondness for AEW and that is totally respectable and totally understandable. Punk came back to wrestling and chose AEW to kick off his second run in professional wrestling, his goal was to make himself money, make the company money and help the company become more profitable than it was before he got there and with the way that everything went down with him his frustrations with Tony is totally understandable as well.

Cody being in WWE is literally proof of everything Punk is saying. He can be "proud" of what he and his old pals created, proud of how he reinvented himself and elevated himself to a main event level talent..... But deep down I guarantee you he knows Punk is right.

@@stephendove5747 You're incorrect. All you have to do is search Cody's latest appearance on the MMA hour. Plus, Cody wouldn't be reacting to something long ago regarding punks thoughts on AEW, when punk hadn't spoken about his thoughts officially until two days prior to this clip. Before Cody gives this answer Ariel references Punks last appearance then asks Cody to elaborate.
@jamesholt6729Ай бұрын
There’s a tasteful way to conduct yourself and then there’s Punks way. To be clear, Punk has some very valid arguments about his troubles while in AEW, but AEW also provided a pathway for Punk’s return. Cody handles even his complaints with decency and class. Punk just starts out with scorched earth. In an industry where millions and billions of dollars are at stake, you conduct yourself accordingly. Very much respect to Cody.
@jackwells8107Ай бұрын
You're right about that, but have you seen information on the salary difference between AEW and WWE? AEW seems to have nearly as large a roster, be paying a lot more for (at least some) of them, and only getting half the ratings WWE is getting (from what I can find in a quick search). That is not a sustainable business model, as far as I can tell, it's a vanity project.
@danw9946Ай бұрын
Well said.
@matt3jgАй бұрын
I get that, but assuming Punk is telling truth...he told Tony to release him, he told him it wasn't working. TK wanted to keep his action figure set complete, he wasn't thinking about business.
@jamesholt6729Ай бұрын
@@matt3jg quite the opposite. Tony was in the process of watching WWE maximize Cody Rhodes into THE star of the company. Khan knew Punk could easily step right into a top 3 spot when managed properly and that’s what Punk did. Punk brings viewers, right or wrong and is a great wrestler. It is a little startling to see how AEW literally fumbled away the top few storylines in the WWE currently and how AEW is now fighting to regain momentum despite some big recent signings. For all of its faults under VKM, people are witnessing why the WWE has always been the standard and why it’s been damn near impossible to compete against.
@yotambirinbaum6159Ай бұрын
You're not exactly wrong. Punk is punk. He says what's on his mind and heart, a lot of times without filter. However, in my opinion, this time is completely justified. Why wouldn't he scorch earth the company who scorched him dozens of times?? Lesser superstars acting disrespectfully towards him. Being double crossed constantly. Spreading rumors behind his back. Botching storylines. Giving better treatment to people who draw less money. Besides, he is speaking the truth this time. Aew doesn't draw enough money. The number of empty seats grows with every show. The ratings fall each 1-2 shows as well, sometimes by thousands at a time and more. Does that seem like a thriving buisness? NOPE. It is a standing buisness, yes, because TK is a billionaire and has the money to keep it up. Does it earn money? Not close to enough to justify the stupid stuff they do. Like airing punk's altercation with perry. They literally broke COPYRIGHT LAWS by that minute of footage (I'm not joking, I checked that and showing that video is revealing personal content of multiple wrestlers, which needs explicit premission if ALL the wrestlers shown.)
@franksamara1815Ай бұрын
AEW has lost its way. Cody has every right to be proud of what was created, but Punk is right about what it has now become. Nonetheless, it is a good thing that AEW exists as it employs several great talents that WWE does not have room for, and they are the constant fire that's lit under WWE's ass that makes sure they keep doing the right thing (and thankfully HHH is at the helm of that now).

Let's be real, you can have your opinion of whether aew is better or worse than when is started, but id argue (totslly subjective, personal opinion) wwe is better because of aew, at the beginning it was a genuine threat to wwe because it was the first viable threat since wcw. I think tna had great stuff, but wwe never treated it like a threat. If aew didn't start as strong, wrestling wouldn't be as good today as it is

AEW did get the WWE’s attention and made them step up their game. Just like WCW did. But Punk isn’t wrong in some ways about AEW. They currently are a train wreck. No MJF, Samoa Joe doesn’t sell tickets. The ex WWE guys aren’t promoted and mid card talent like the young meh bucks keep getting pushed. Moxley’s character is stale, Darby Alan is one mishap from being paralyzed. Jungle Boy is a complete joke along with Hook and these other wrestlers who look 12. I’m no Punk fan and Cody did well. But what he built and what is now are two hugely different things. Not to mention Jericho and his characters are stale. Khan and his team can’t write stories. It’s Indy and it shows with all the different companies on one show. It’s not AEW. It’s Indy circuit with GWP, ROH, New Japan and oh yeah AEW

The whole point of Aew was to show off the athletics of the popular indie guys that never got a shot at mainstream success while being a sports-based product. It has now devolved into a ego based 'lets do whatever we want because the guy whose paying us is a mark that has no self control.' Politics and backstabbing have becone the norm in a place where they said it wouldn't happen. I get why cody left, he was the only one trying to do realistic sport's stuff that would have made money while the other 3 vps just wanted to make video games and be on top for once.

can we just be honest about AEW being a failure? yes they have put on some good shows and have a decent following.
