We are relaxed camping in the Ouachita mountains of Arkansas. Too a short hike up to the top of Flatside Pinnacle, enjoyed Lake Sylvia, and gourmet cooking.

This is the good slow life and something more people should experience:) As a Norwegian and European I was not aware that Arkansas could be like this and it is fun to watch the landscape and how you explore the area while living the simple, but good life:) An inspiration to those stuck in the cities and far away from nature! P.S That pizza looked just right as a snack! Cheers and be safe all of you exploring nature! Greetings from Northern Norway!

It was the summer of 1965. I had a summer job with the Arkansas Highway Department down in Southwest Arkansas along with 4 or 5 other high school guys. The bulk of our job was to hand clear brush where the tractors couldn’t mow. One day we were eating lunch under a bridge where there was some shade and I felt something scratch my leg just above my sock. I reached down and felt what I thought was a stick, but when I tried to pull it out of my pant leg, it pulled back. I jerked it out and was holding a tarantula by one of its legs. I must have yelled or made a lot of commotion, because all the other boys looked in my direction just about the time I threw the tarantula. It must have been a site to see a bunch of teenagers dancing around, shaking their legs and checking up their pants legs just in case my tarantula had friends. After we settled down we looked for the tarantula but we never found it. I imagine we scared that tarantula almost as bad as it scared us.

Love your Channel. While watching the pizza making, I was thinking how much teamwork it takes to have a delicious meal. But the behind-the-scenes reality is that it takes just as much work to clean it up and pack it away. I used to do all of this when I was younger and if I didn't spend 2 well alright at least 1 day per week in the wilderness I felt short-changed. And it cost a lot of money to do these things. It finally got to the point where it made more sense to bring my own ready-made coffee and a sandwich and go on hikes, all of it the best time of my life. And it helps to have an adventurous girl, but I didn't only marathon runners in which I turned into hikers. Still a girl is better. It's Really hard to find one that is that Adventures. Thanks for the adventure.

I had a taste for Italian tonight. All day long my homemade spaghetti sauce was simmering in the crockpot. Thin spaghetti pasta (al dente, of course!), the delicious sauce, and topped with aged Parmesan cheese. It was good, but THEN I saw your pizza. You used a pesto sauce. That looked great. I have a jar of pesto that I've been looking for an excuse to open. Kudos on how amazingly well you use your Dutch oven. Tomatoes, garlic, onion, mushrooms, and bell pepper were my veggies for tonight. Dessert? An apple and cheddar cheese. Congratulations on your successful fishing expedition! I'm adding in a prayer for rainfall. I hope y'all have a good week.

12:22. I saw my first otter, bald eagle, armadillo, wild piglet (east Texas's actually), oriole, Cardinal and walking stick insect in Arkansas. What I didn't see was the copperhead that bit me. Luckily it was a small one and hit me sick so didn't penetrate much leaving me with brief swelling (2x) of my ankle and foot which turned black for a couple of days before returning to normal.

Maybe you guys will still be in Arkansas for Thanksgiving and you can see the colors of Fall. Coyotes wow !! The sound was kind of spooky and unique. I've heard Fort Desoto in Florida (I live in Florida)is full of raccoons and they are brazen. Lots of people camp there and raccoons know people equals food. The San Gabriel and San Bernardino mountains north and west of Los Angeles also run east to west. The drought out west has affected the entire food chain. No spring plant growth means no bunnies means no food for coyote. Those racoons in Arkansas are something else. They'll tear through anything to get to food.
