Zero sarcasm - as an ultralight backpacking snob, it's fun to see a more traditional backpacking gear loadout. I didn't hear a single mention of how many grams something was.
@codyandvictoria3 жыл бұрын
I couldn't tell you how much any of our stuff weighs 😂 it's not too heavy to carry 40 miles - so it works for us!
@Esundevil3 жыл бұрын
Seriously. I think I’ve become conditioned and kept thinking “well, there are better options than that”. I’m not giving up ultralight or anything, but it’s a good reminder that not ever hike is a thru hike.

@@Esundevil As a person who walks 25+ miles a day through rough, rugged and unmarked terrain with no visible paths or roads during inhospitable weather conditions using only a compass, GPS unit and satellite topographic maps, I have never and will never use the word 'Through-Hike' - If you don't really need a personal locator beacon and the next town is less than 60 miles away, you're not hiking or trekking, you're going on a leisurely walk through a nature park down well-worn paths...

Groovy gear. Check out the Fellows Prismo aeropress attachment (replaces the basket filter).... Game changer. Been using one at home for over 3 years now. No more sketchy inverted balancing acts filling the Aeropress. I was a skeptic but now can't use them without it. (though you may wanna be careful about not letting it freeze - it has a pressue gasket that *could* crack - I think it's silicon so shouldnt be an issue but who know)

My wife and I love our Talus 2! Biggest selling point, in addition to the look and light weight, is that the extra width in the footbox allows us to easily fit our double sleeping pad in the tent. Most backpacking tents don't have enough space in the foot. We use the Recharge DW by Paria and sleep like a dream. It's the one piece gear my wife insists we take. Keep 'em coming. 👍

Just cruising KZbin ran across you guys really enjoyed your video you guys do a great job 😀 I like the fact that you don't have all the high-tech stuff just regular real people out backpacking and enjoying it and having fun !!!!! I'll have to agree the trichology pillow is a really nice pillow my first one had to leak in it and they replaced it no questions asked immediately I was very impressed with their customer service !!! The other piece that we have in common is the sleeping mat mine is not the recon but it looks very much like that it's 30 in wide and it's just a blow-up mat. 1.5 r value... after I had that one for a while I then purchased their Insulated Static V Luxe SL pad and I went with the 27" wide. I'm a side sleeper and tend to be pretty active at night so they're the only company that I found that made a really nice comfortable pad that was WIDE and I have not regretted it one bit. This one has a 6.5 r rating and I've quit looking at pads ever since. Well u 2 thanks for the awesome 😎👍🏽👍🏽🎥. ☮️& Keep on rocking the free world ☺️

Enjoy your videos, keep it up. For pads look at exped duo, several versions depending on expected temp range. A double pad is much easier with better results than tying pads together. Klymit makes an insulated double although it’s a little heavy. You basically need an R5 pad for a winter bag to perform to it stated rating. For example a 20 degree bag with an R4 is more like a 30 degree bag. R values and bag ratings are not that exact but that’s another subject. Along the same lines a double bag/quilt makes better use of shared body temp, more comfortable than sleeping separately. Choices include Sierra designs backcountry duo, Nemo tango duo, thermarest vela and enlightened equipment accomplice.

I got the v sheet for my klymit sleeping pad and the nemo fillo luxury pillow. Best thing I've every done to improve my sleep setup after sleeping bag. I just made my own version of this video recently and it surprises me how much less you have to wear to feel warm... Maybe it's just because I'm in Canada, but I wear like 7 layers including 2 down layers when camping or backpacking anywhere between October to April. It's just super cold at night so I was shocked to see you only have a t-shirt, a fleece, and a thin down jacket when it's cold. I also have to wear insulated pants and double up on the wool socks. It's cool to compare my kit with yours to see the differences. :)
