We were fortunate to have a friend with one of these Endless pool current generators in his backyard pool within 30 minutes of our house. My son (he just aged to 12) was able to keep his stroke and some conditioning for 3 months while the pools were closed. The unit we had access to only reved up to a 1:08 pace which was ok for me (I’m 43 and out of shape) but got challenging after 3-4 minutes or so. My son who is a 5:10 500 swimmer right now had trouble swimming that slow. But it was better than nothing. We found ways to drag him down to make the 1:08 pace work for him (butterfly sets, drag suit, pull buoy, stretch cord resistance in combo with the current). The current generator unit was in a 35ft pool so we were able to do what we called flume sprints where he would push off and really work his underwater (streamline/body position are really tough into a current) and breakout then sprint into the current to the generator. Short intervals, no breathing on the sprints. All in all, the endless pool is a fantastic tool for keeping your feel on the water.

I swam in a different brand current pool like this for a summer and it messed up my stroke royally. good workouts but i started off my season really struggling with technique, which had historically been a strength. I installed a used version just over a year ago. Cranking the electric heater for 9 months of that year (southern cali) my year long electric bill was $1800 more than the previous year. I installed a black tubing style solar water heater, ran on its own small pump, and that looks to reduce the yearly cost by 70%. We use the pool 6 days a day on average. They are great!
