At first when I saw “Getting Over It”, I thought about it as an art object. Just someone saw “Sexy Hiking”, got really impressed and made his own game related to it, and “Golfing Over It” was a confirmation: someone saw “Getting Over It”, got really impressed and made his own game. I thought “Getting Over It” shows us ...us. Shows how we struggle to approach something while not even knowing what this “something” is, I thought it reflects the path of people - up the career ladder, up to mastering the skills, up to any certain point, how we never stay in place and always ascend in one way or another. Path can get hard sometimes, we can fall down, experience failure, rage... But we will eventually overcome an ordeal given, resulting in yet more ordeals. I saw “Getting Over It” as a philosophical product. And then I found Cody. And then I realized, that this game’s role as an art is just secondary, but firstly it is... a game. A game with community. With lots and lots of creative people, their ideas, their own “games” of some kind, being actual games or even mods - and “Getting Over It” being a game is the hugest part of it being an art. As any game, GOI is not just “game” like the source, but also everything players made with this source, and community reacting to the work of community. And with that, life is not just you doing stuff and getting better and better, it is about people. People around you, communicating with you, reacting to each other and putting philosophy in their “gameplay” - things they do every day. Creating. Building, drawing, speaking, coding... Coding games, coding games similar to “Getting Over It”. Art.
