My dad lived and died here. I’d visit as a kid from California even got my first car out here and drove it back down to LA. I spent many of summers doing the drive back and forth, even going into Canada to visit granny in Saskatchewan. I sure took it for granted. Now as an adult I truly appreciate Idaho and Couer d’ Aleine will always have a special place in my heart.

Great video, was there in the winter of 2020 and still loved it! I never thought of relating it to Switzerland, but that's so accurate! at 07:53 you mentioned the origin of the city's name and I must correct you. In French cœur means heart, d' is the abbreviated version of "of" and Alene is an awl tool that punches leather skins, giving you the heart of an awl. The French fur traders dubbed the native American tribe this name because of their business hardiness during the fur trades because they were savvy, sharp and strong, like the awl.

Love my home! To give a bit of background on the name: In french "Cœur" means "Heart" ,d = of,and Alène = (is a punch used to pierce leather) At the time of the French Louisiana, fur traders and trappers French dubbed the Indians "Cœur d'Alène" because of his business hardness (Awl is a solid punch for working skins and furs). In their language, the Native Americans call themselves Skitswish which means ("the people that we discover here").

From a native of Coeur'd Alene's point of view this used to be one of the best kept secrets and many call it 'God's country' (although God made beauty in every part of the world). It was around the late 80's & early 90's that droves of Californian's started moving here. The locals were/are not happy. To visit was one thing but to buy up the property and make CDA unbelievably expensive was not a welcoming idea. I remember seeing the newspaper headlines in the early 90's & on the front page was a car with CA plates that had been egged. It was becoming the rage & the article warned CA residents to get their plates changed as soon as they could. So now this sleepy little town hidden in the mountains grew up to be an overpriced city & the secret is no more.

Have no clue what he's referring to as a rough biker vibe. If anything we are a mix of wealthy implants, friendly and relatively safe natives, and some leftover grunge looks from the 90's. Of course the crime rate is a little higher as the city grows but I certainly do n't think of CDA as rough. But hey if it will deter people from moving here then by all means yes..we are a rough & mean crew who snap without warning;-) Actually after 10 yrs of peacefully managing my duplex we had a drive-by shooting in the late 90's. True story & I have photos of the bullet marks to prove it. i had rented it to a single mom from CA who had 2 younger boys that were trouble! They also got caught stealing mail from mailboxes at Christmas.

Then there’s me an unwealthy implant who just wanted to live in northern Idaho and go to the community college while serving in the national guard and working a full or part time job. Looks like I’m going to have to commute since the rent is a bit steep for me lol. You don’t happen to know any smaller areas with possible rental apartments within 30-45 minutes? 😂 I’ve not had much luck but then again haven’t had time to truly look.

@@templeguard1276 Nothing is cheap even in outer areas like Post Falls, Dalton Gardens, Hayden Lake etc. But they're still less $ than being right in town. Rathrum might be the least expensive. I was very lucky to secure a place off of Best Ave before prices got too high. And private owners are ALWAYS better than property managers. Look around & hunt for the "for rent'" signs.Good luck.

@joshprice32000
@joshprice32000 3 жыл бұрын
@@palbo4 Wasn't because of no masks. The masks don't work when the general population wears them the incorrect way, touch their face non stop, re-use the same clothe masks, and the openings in a non surgical mask are too big to stop the virus anyways. It's smoke and mirrors to make people feel better, but the reality is that they do little nothing.
@palbo4
@palbo4 3 жыл бұрын
@@joshprice32000 it's absolutely because of people not wearing masks. The masks don't work when people don't wear them the right way so no one should wear them at all? That's a terrible argument. Wearing masks definitely lowers the amount of virus spread; even if they're incorrectly worn they still stop viruses spreading better than if no masks are worn at all. If you still don't believe masks work at this point the people you're listening to clearly don't know what they're talking about or are deliberately spreading misinformation. There's no debating that virus droplets don't spread as widely when they're blocked after exiting the nose or mouth. That's been scientifically proven a million times over by now and is just frankly common sense. If you can't understand that you're just not listening to real science. Viruses spread and pandemics grow when people don't take preventative measures, that's just how it works. When people just do whatever they want and only follow these measures inconsistently things get worse, like in CDA where hardly any places require or enforce mask mandates or social distancing. So the virus has been spreading like crazy here because that's what happens when people pretend the pandemic isn't real. Sorry to rant and I don't mean to be condescending, but this is just getting SO old. We were breaking country records for virus spread for a little while because people for the most part refuse to take the virus seriously here. It's infuriating. I love this town but I just don't feel safe where I live any more because of this ridiculous attitude people are taking about this pandemic
